Suggestion for a first time try at mead

Ok so I guess I won't heat the honey. Here in portugal we are having some problems in recent years with the introduction of asian wasps. They're really bad for the bees... Also my honey flavor will vary depending on the time I collect it, rn it's more floral and sweet and then it'll get darker...

Suggestion for a first time try at mead

I'm into brewing beer at the moment and ofc I'm also portuguese and for those who don't know, Portugal has a culture of wine just like france. We have a really famous type of wine here called Port wine, "vinho do porto" which is a sweet wine especially appreciated by the british. I would like...

Suggestion for a first time try at mead

I found this thread Joe's Ancient Orange Mead and I have some questions. Can I follow what malkore said and omit the raisins and use the wyeast sweet mead yeast instead of the bread yeast? And if I want to do a bigger amount like 5.5 gallons can I simply multiply all the ingredients x5.5? Thanks...

    Weissbier fermentation problem

Yes, I was using wyeast 3068 WEIHENSTEPHAN WEIZEN, I was just afraid the temp change would be a problem not the actual temp itself, like starting too high and then dropping more than 6 degrees celsius after just a few hours. Thanks, I think I can be less worried.

Suggestion for a first time try at mead

Hello guys, never done mead before but since I produce my own honey which has a really good taste and I think it's superior to what I buy in portuguese supermarkets, I really want to give it a try. Here in portugal it's also really hard to buy mead so that's another reason I want to try it. I...

    Weissbier fermentation problem

So guys, this monday I made an hefeweizen (weissbier) and I had planned to ferment it for 3 days at 16,5 degrees celsius(62f) (and then gradually ramping up. What happened was that my thermostat is an stc 1000 and I had the cables not inside a box, so somehow a cable got disconnected and the...

What's the best option to warm up your chestfridge fermentation chamber?

Definitively my favourite option, the only problem is buying one outside the UK, usually the manufacturer is from UK and shops in spain/portugal say there's a problem in supplying due to brexit. I'll wait a bit to see if I can catch one for cheap.

What's the best option to warm up your chestfridge fermentation chamber?

I only have this photo atm, I can take another tomorrow since the chestfridge isn't at my home. It has a lamp in the door/lid but other than that I think it has no coils there. It has a drain hole though but to be able to use it, I have to pass the wire through there and only after that I can...

    Hello from Portugal

I think I'm interested in your pH meter but I only found it in one spanish shop Medidor digital de pH / ORP / Redox y Temperatura XS pH5 (G-PHT5ECO) 130€ can't find it anywhere else. Maybe I'll go for it I have to think. The only extra things I have to buy is pH buffer solutions, no need for...

Welcome, I'm also interested to get into mead since I have my own honey production. Which type of mead would you recommend to start off?

    Hello from Portugal

Yeah, probably in a hops forum, no? I'm also growing hops and I plan to use them later in my beer. I'm currently growing 4 of each of these (cascade, columbus, nugget, magnum, fuggle, saaz) and maybe in other years I'll add more variety to it but you already know what's going on if you know me...

What's the best option to warm up your chestfridge fermentation chamber?

I think I like the idea of using reptile bulbs, I can buy them for as low as 2€ from china 50W or 75W and put them in a dimmer switch as suggest by day_trippr and it'll work great. How did you power your pc fan? Did you wire it to a 12V adapter? And how do you plug your eletric equipment that's...

What's the best option to warm up your chestfridge fermentation chamber?

I see that options but for that I would prefer to go for a ceramic heating lamp without any light at all and still cheap, but what I really want to know if 240w of heating power Will be too much for my 15 cu ft chestfridge or if I should drop to 90w/80w. Im just skeptical about being able to...

    Hello from Portugal

Thanks cyclman, this is just the beginning, I'm eager to improve. Birrofilo can you tell how much did you pay for your pH meter? I will try to search more in depth about the pH meter but currently I was only looking into amazon and maybe I shoud look into different stores. I agree with you when...

    Hello from Portugal

Thanks guys ahah, first I'm not really into Sagres, we call it barley soup ahahah. Still there are even worse beers around here. Second, I agree we have some nice cities to visit, I wished I could visit them too, instead of being closed at home. I can't believe in what you're saying, I already...
