    Bulk Yeast

Thank you all for the suggestions.

    Bulk Yeast

I received a free sample of A01 yeast (bulk package). I know how to calculate pitch rate but how do I dose this (ie how do I sterilize the container that use to weigh it)?

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

I usually use 2 lbs of flaked oats for a 6.5 gal batch. I also use 3lbs of malted oats, and 2 lbs of spelt malt in addition to the brewer’s malt. I put all my other crushed grains in (brewzilla user) with some rice hulls then I put the oats in at the top. Also, adjusting your water for the...

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

In my opinion, still a little too dark. If you could get it to 8 or below. I, personally would drop the munich completely. Sub in some oat malt or flaked oats which you can get at any store (rolled oats). Additionally, the dry hops need to be at least 8 g/ liter and for the best stable haze, be...

No aroma from 6 oz dry hop. What gives?!

I used to have same issue until I tried a recommendation by Denny Conn. If I’m making an IPA (not hazy) then I soft crash after fermentation to 45°F for 24 hours. Add the hops and purge 3 cycles. I leave the hops for 48-72 hours. Then crash down to 34°F for 24 hrs and then do closed transfer...

Avoiding O2 at all costs for wedding NEIPA - My Low O2 Setup

If you run the fermentation gas through the out tube you will get suckback of any liquid (ie starsan) that’s in the keg and that will go into the fermenter. Ask me how I know. lol 😂.

    No C02 in kegged beer

I once had the same issue and after troubleshooting, found it to be a bad poppet valve on the gas post. I replaced the entire post.

Your chance to trial a FREE Pinter!

I mostly enjoy the entire process from developing my own recipes, trying out new hops, and new hop combinations. I thoroughly enjoy brew day with all the aromas and hitting all the target numbers. It’s also quite nice to be able to pour a fresh beer on tap anytime I want.

Doesn’t campden tablets do the same thing as yeast/sugar? I treat my water with campden the night before to rid chlorine and/or chloramine and get the added benefit of eliminating oxygen - so I’ve read.

    Alternative NEIPA yeast thoughts

My new favorite is Cosmic Punch and Helio Gazer. These are Thiol boosting yeasts and I have made my best NEIPAs with these. I just read about Imperial Capri which is combo of A38 Juice and A43 Loki that I’m excited to try.

    IPA hop additions

I’ve made lots of NEIPAs in the past and tried many different ways of dry hopping. Currently, I do 2 dry hop additions: the first one day 2! Of fermentation for biotransformation The 2nd one is based upon a suggestion from a well known brewer: After fermentation is complete, I soft crash for...

Tell me what I'm doing wrong? Highly Inconsistent Hoppy Beers...

Where do you get your hops and how do you store them? I switched to Yakima Valley and bought a vacuum sealer. I store my hops, vacuum sealed, in the freezer and that made a huge difference in my IPAs. I used to have muted hops and no aroma. Now I get the expected flavors and great aroma...

Keg temperature inconsistent with temperature controller

In order to get an accurate measure of the beer temperature you should pour a pint in a separate container and then pour another pint and measure that one. The first pour gets the lines and tap cold as they will be slightly warmer than the beer in the keg.

Options to avoid a dry hop - increase whirlpool/flameout hops?

I’ll chime in with my experience as well. I have dry hopped in the keg many times and through the life of the beer have not gotten any grassy flavors. When I used the regular dip tube (now I use floating) I put the hops in a hop sock and tired it to the lid hanging about 1/3 off the way which...

    Robobrew/Brewzilla Discussion

When I first started I had the grains delivered already crushed. However, after a couple brews I decided to but my own mill and I’m glad I did. Grains can be stored much longer not crushed so now I order ahead so I can brew when I want and freshly crush the grains on brew day and control the...

    Overcarbonated? Frustrated!

You should be able to replace without any issues as long as you purge a few times. Mine was fairly new too when it failed. I discovered it after I bought a new keg and realized the new one was carbing in about a week at serving pressure. The other one took 3 weeks at higher pressure. Once I...

    Overcarbonated? Frustrated!

I once has a similar issue and discovered it was the gas post. I replaced it and now my beers carb in about a week. I assume the poppet was bad but I replaced the entire post.
