    Strong Bitter Common Room ESB

Hello friends, I'm going to try this as my first all grain brew.... I wanted to use deathbrewer's all grain stove top method for this and, excuse the n00bness, but I had some questions for brewing this ... When this is written: Does this mean that first I "mash in" all the grains with...

    Cooling the wort is unnecessary

mmmmm, botulism neurotoxins..... be careful with this no-chill type of method, brothers. although i guess if you HEAT sanitize then there isn't much to worry about.

Easy Stovetop All-Grain Brewing (with pics)

I've been thinking of making EdWort's AG Haus Pale Ale but (excuse my excessive noobness but...) the directions in this thread and the directions in EdWort's Mash section are confusing. I'm not really sure how to "convert" the Haus Pale Ale (HPA) for this stovetop method. For example, the HPA...

Tequila instead of Vodka for disinfectant?

I would start with vodka then tequila then another swig of vodka before starting siphonage.

Do I even want a wort chiller?

Yeah, what he said! I live in a small broom closet with a window and thus have been limited to partial boils (10L and less). So far I have been able to keep the wort at acceptable temps with an ice bath, transferring to primary, and topping off with water I've keep chilled in the fridge for...

How to stop airlock gunk from getting in fermenter when moving fermenter...

OK. Well, guess I'll put Vodka in the airlock from now on and just loosen the fermenter lid a little before I start bottling so there isn't much "airlock suckage."

How to stop airlock gunk from getting in fermenter when moving fermenter...

Ooohh, that better bottle with dry airlock looks sweet. Gotta slap one of those on my x-mas list. So.... should I crack the fermenter lid a little to release some pressure in the fermenter so when moving it, ever so gently, it won't blow out...but then it woulc also suck outside air in from...

How to stop airlock gunk from getting in fermenter when moving fermenter...

Uhh.. won't that expose the beer to the outside air (by removing the airlock?!) and increase the potential for contamination?

How to stop airlock gunk from getting in fermenter when moving fermenter...

Hi. Searched for 'airlock', 'sanitizer', 'fermenter' and various combinations but couldn't find anything. Anyway, I've had my fermenter in a swamp cooler here: and (I've had this problem in the past) when I move the fermenter the crude in the airlock gets sucked into the beer because of...

    Fermentation temperature question?

OK. So as Bob notes... if after maintaining at 20C for one week in the swamp cooler, can we let the fermenter get back up to room temperature, stop using ice, t-shirt over the fermenter etc? And, if we do this, will an average room temperature of 26-27C harm the beer? And also, what about the...

Noob question: Keeping a Coopers Microbrew Fermenter (w/ spigot) cool

So, doing this ... how would I be able to see the temperature of the fermenter? I have a stick-on kind.

Noob question: Keeping a Coopers Microbrew Fermenter (w/ spigot) cool

OK -But, how long do I keep the temp at 18 - 24C? 2 weeks? 3 weeks?

Noob question: Keeping a Coopers Microbrew Fermenter (w/ spigot) cool

OK, thanks for all the great replies. Just wondering while the wort is fermenting... do I need to keep the swamp cooler temp around 22C for the entire 14 days? (as recommended by the home brew shop) Can I stop putting blue icepaks in the cooler after 2-3 days? OR do I need to keep it at 22C past...

Noob question: Keeping a Coopers Microbrew Fermenter (w/ spigot) cool

Thanks guys for the replies. Well I went to Target and picked up a giant tub that my fermenter fits into... and . As you can see if I submerse the fermenter in this thing, it will be under water. So, what people are saying is that it's fine to keep the fermenter spigot under water? AND, on...

Noob question: Keeping a Coopers Microbrew Fermenter (w/ spigot) cool

Hi. I have searched and it seems there are a few ideas about keeping the fermenter cool during the summer. Swamp coolers, giant tubs with ice, etc. The problem I have is that I bought a Coopers Microbrew kit (very happy with it) but it has a spigot and swamp cooler, giant tubs with ice, etc...
