    Music While Brewing

Tragically Hip, Fully Completely or Road Apples Phish, Siket Disc Corb Lund, anything live And I only listen to these on a brew day. BTW, thanks for the great question. It’s easy to get caught up in my own little world on a brew day. It’s cool to see others have a similar “extracurricular“...

    2022 Lupomax Release Date

I’m interested in trying Lupomax hop pellets, but given the time of year I figured I’d wait for the 2022 product. As if today, Y.V.H. has 2020 and 2021 Lupomax hops available. Does anyone recall the approximate release date/month from previous years?

What was the best beer you ever brewed?

Charlie’s Rocky Raccoon Honey Lager, although it was like 30 years ago. I wish I remembered exactly what I did. I know I used as an ale yeast (early 90’s, probably Edme) and I don’t recall the hops although the recipe calls for Cascades. It was very delicate and floral. Always thought it was the...

American IPA The New West Coast IPA

This is a great thread. Glad to read posts from brewers discussing this style of beer. I’m going to be snarky, sorry, but IPA can be clear and still have amazing hop bitterness, flavor and aroma!

    Hop spiders and filters

For whole hops, has anyone tried using a bazooka screen in the kettle? I ran a trial with some old hops and plain water (hops were added loose, not bagged) and it seemed to work. But, I wasn’t dealing with trub.

    Soup

I found a recipe for a Thai influence peanut soup using Campbell’s Tomato Soup. Sorry, couldn’t find exact recipe online but there are plenty there to choose from. Came out really good.

    Saflager 34/70

I’ve used 2 packets on batches up to a starting gravity of 1.072 with great results. I want to try 1 pack on lower gravity beers but figure I’d stick with what I know works for me. I usually pay between $5 and $6 per sachet.

Best beer you can't make again?

Charlie P’s Rocky Raccoon Honey Lager, about 30 years ago. Used a packet of dry ale yeast, who knows, could have been Edme. Bottle conditioned. Came out amazing. Made a few attempts over the years. Like chasing a ghost. Oh well.

The "I'd nevervdrink that if it were ALL that was available" thread

I hope this doesn’t generate any anger, but anything described as hazy and juicy. I love IPAs but I can just add some milk to grapefruit juice and get similar results.

    Brewing Styles I Don't Like

This is off topic a little, but would you care to share your Porter recipe? I too like to brew straight forward ales and lagers and would love to see what you brewed.

    What are you drinking now?

    Right now? Scotch.

    The Home Made Pizza Thread

As far as dough sticking to peel, I came up with something this weekend and it worked great. Place a piece of parchment paper on peel first, then corn meal. If dough sticks to paper just place in oven with the paper and after about 30-60 seconds you can remove the paper with ease. I did get my...

What do you do with your spent grains?

Has anyone ever used spent grains as a substrate to grow oyster mushrooms? Thinking of trying, maybe add to straw.

    Warm Conditioning A Lager

Check out Brülosophy.com for an article on warm fermentation of lager beer.

What is the point of adding honey during the boil? What flavour it will bring?

I brewed Charlie P.’s Rocky Raccoon Honey Lager years ago when I first started homebrewing, and I must have been lucky or something because the beer was amazing. My friends also thought the beer was fantastic. However, if pressed I don’t think any of us at the time could have confidentially said...

    Catamount 8 Lives

Did you ever have any luck finding Catamount Christmas Ale. I've been craving that beer ever since the last time it was on shelves in 1998.
