    Chest freezer for fermentation?

If you are using a temp controller, why do you need to warm the interior of the freezer? Your internal temp will stay near the settings on the controller. I guess your question has me confused.

necessary to pre-boil top off water?

Store bought spring water may or may not have contaminates. Only way to be completely certain is to boil, then cool down for use as top off water. I'd say 99 times out of 100 you'll be fine without boiling. But you never know when that one time is going to hit.

    Question about using gelatin

As I understand it, it is best to use it while cold crashing. Boil and cool a cup of water, mix in the gelatin, then add it to your fermentor. Let it cold crash for a few days then keg/bottle as you normally would.

    Star san drying time

I didn't make the video, but I do this in every batch. And when I ask the yeast (what, you don't talk to your yeast?? for shame) they tell me how great it is to have the StarSan foam in there with them. ;)

What is wrong with my beer: Over Carbonation and Metal Off-Taste

I'm thinking water is the issue to for the metallic taste. I have that same problem with my house water and have been forced to get water from a water station at the grocery store.

    Which beginner kit?

Glass is great, but comes with some risk. As you've said, it is heavy and can break. The brew hauler certainly mitigates this, but doesn't completely take it away. What I like about my 6.5 glass carboys is the ease of keeping them clean. It takes nearly no time at all to clean and sanitize...

    Brewday prep!

Good to hear your brew day went well. Take a close look at the yeast washing thread that was provided. It really isn't all that hard and is a great way to cut down on the cost of your brews. If you can boil and cool water, then pour into a container;...you can wash yeast.

    It will be fine.

    CO2/N2 with Smithwicks

If I'm around, about 4 days...:cross: Kegs are pretty sterile environments (assuming conditions were proper during filling, etc) and Smithwicks is a red ale, so given all of these variables; it'll keep for a good long time. How long are you thinking of letting it stay in there?

    Water filter review

I'm thinking about getting a water filter as the constant trips to the grocery store to get bottled water are getting to be a pain. I've tried using my tap water, but where I live (Parker, CO) my brews end up tasting like, what one friend described as, "burnt paper". Has anyone used...

When to add grains?? Newb Question

Be careful when raising the water temp while you have the grains in there. There is a potential to scorch the grains resting on the bottom of your pot. If you can tie off the grain bag so it does not rest on the bottom, then you are more safe to heat them up along with the water. If not, I'd...

    Best brew day so far!

Great to hear of your success. Some brew days are just like that for me. A picture of relaxation by a boiling pot of wort, wonderful. Others...I've got some great stories!
