    Yeast/Nurient Question

So after my last batch didn’t go so well it took me a long time but I set up a new batch yesterday. Very simple recipe. My question is, the yeast is red star Pasteur champagne yeast- does it need yeast nutrients? Recipe didn’t call for any, but I figured I’d ask.

Idea for Mead Recipe - Seeking Advice

I’m certainly not opposed to working with sour cherries to avoid the robitussin effect, but would my idea have a chance of working? Do you think it might create a cherry-apple flavor that’s sweet?

Idea for Mead Recipe - Seeking Advice

As I have said, I am an amateur mead maker, having only done so a few times. I was interested in trying to make a cherry mead until I saw how several people online had tried it and it apparently came out like robitussin. So I was considering making a cherry-cyser? Thinking two large cans of...

    Quick Cyser Question

10 lbs I would think it could stand to add a gallon of apple juice since I added so little honey?

    Quick Cyser Question

So I started a cyser day before yesterday. It’s about 4 gallons but I realized I have enough room in the bucket with the must for another gallon of apple juice. Is it too late to add another gallon? Seems to be humming along fine and I don’t want to mess it up, but I also can’t imagine why...

    Batch Started, But have Concerns

Ya think? I guess I can let it sit for a few months. Gonna clear out the strawberries and put it in a dark room. Maybe by April it will taste decent.

    Batch Started, But have Concerns

So I reracked to secondary, thawed some frozen strawberries and added them to each secondary (split it into two for secondary over space concerns). Then I waited like 6 weeks and just tried the first half. So there's an odor of alcohol about it, but it's very cloudy with pieces of strawberry...

Okay, we’ll I guess tomorrow I’ll rerack to secondary and add pectic enzyme. Thank you!

    Batch Started, But have Concerns

Took a reading tonight, photos attached. So, we actually only extracted juice from the strawberries and didn’t put any full ones in. Some pieces got in but I bet when we extract from primary to secondary they will mostly be settled on the bottom and avoided. When should I use pectic enzyme if...

    Batch Started, But have Concerns

I appreciate all the help, but I have another question if you don’t mind So for a while I added nutrients every other day and stirred to give it some oxygen. The last few every other day openings were just for stirring. But when I looked yesterday there didn’t seem to be ANY bubbles...I didn’t...

    Batch Started, But have Concerns

Well, over the last few days I've been adding nutrients every other day and stirring. Today when I opened it up it was bubbling happily along and some must was actually in the airlock! I did some more stirring and added more nutrients. Only a little left of the nutrients I bought but I figure...

Do you have a link to those instructions on staggering nutrients, by chance? And how long should I keep stirring daily?

    Batch Started, But have Concerns

SNA protocols? We are mostly good on bugs, but I do worry. We had a few fruit flies last week and I’d like to keep them out of the must. Any reason not to keep it sealed?

    Batch Started, But have Concerns

    - Regarding no bubbles- I've been opening the must to aerate roughly every 12 hours. I'm wondering if there are no bubbles in part because of that? Opening the must every 12 hours may not let enough CO2 build up enough to push through the airlock? It's a 7.9 gallon carboy so with 3 inches of...

    Batch Started, But have Concerns

Looks like it's fermenting! The first one yesterday was higher than 40, and now it's closer to 32? Am I reading this right? (Note these are both readings from tonight- you need to compare to the readings I posted above).

    Batch Started, But have Concerns

I didn’t follow protocol the first time, but definitely did to the letter the second. Also, the second time I followed instructions on nutrients and used like 1/4 of the small bottle initially, and another 1/4 this morning. I missed putting it in yesterday, so I’ve put in a little less than I...

    Batch Started, But have Concerns

So I added nutrients this morning when stirring. I have to admit I did it initially when I pitched the yeast (the second time) but forgot to other times I opened to stir. I'll check the reading again this evening when I get home. We'll see how it looks.

    Batch Started, But have Concerns

So I used the hydrometer again, and it looks like 40 for OG? Included pics of both sides of reading. Oh, I put the stick on thermometer on the side of the must, and it reads 68 degrees. Stirred again before taking it, then filled hydrometer, waited a minute and took reading. So I guess the...
