    Crazy Fermentation is this normal

To clarify it was between 80-90 when I introduced the yeast, but it went down to my basement to ferment and was down to around 65-70 degrees when I checked it later that night. It's been holding that temp ever since. Two days later the airlock is still jumping every 2 to 6 seconds but the actual...

    Crazy Fermentation is this normal

Temp was around 80-90 degrees, I'll look at the exact strain tonight and post. This was my first batch in about a year so things were running a bit fast and loose with the details.

    Crazy Fermentation is this normal

Thanks, it's the first time I've used the new White Labs yeast packs versus the tubes I normally use so I was a little shocked to see it going that crazy so soon. This is a total nonsense batch so we'll see where it goes. 2.5 lb's munich grain 7 lb's ligh extract White Labs Kolsh Yeast 1 oz...

    Crazy Fermentation is this normal

I brewed on Sunday afternoon and by Monday my beer was fermenting to the point that all the trub was actually swirling around in the carboy. Below is a video of what I mean, it's just going crazy. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QGN4gk1LgBk Should I be worried or just happy that the yeast is...

    Sanitizing Bottles

I just put mine in the dishwasher as I drink beer and wash them on the bottom rack with my other dishes. I check the inside to make sure they are clean and then store them in my basement upside in the beer box until I’m ready to bottle. Knock on wood, I haven’t ever had any problems...

Is it possible to have a higher gravity reading after three weeks

can you assume my starting gravity from my recipe?

Is it possible to have a higher gravity reading after three weeks

Here's the recipe I used, just something I made up. One of these days I'm going to conquer the hydrometer. I was very active at about 50-55 degrees for three weeks and turned out great. It's a light looking beer, which was what I wanted. I might try and do the same recipe with all grain and...

Is it possible to have a higher gravity reading after three weeks

I must have read it wrong, I guess that would have meant my original reading was 1.017 and my final was 1.012, making my alcohol content around 5%?

Is it possible to have a higher gravity reading after three weeks

I have a larger I brewed and the first gravity reading was 1.07 (or at least that's what I wrote down) three weeks later after a very active fermentation process my reading is now 1.12. Is this even possible? The only thing I can think is my first ready was actually 1.17 but I remember...

    Force carbonating

So I just purchased a basic kegging kit, ball lock corny keg, co2 tank, and picnic tap with the understanding I wouldn’t have to wait a week or two for the carbonation process. I’m a little confused by the different posts. I thought the purpose of getting the kegging kit is so you could force...

My beer looks really strange, not activity

When I pitched my yeast it was around 70, but afterwards I topped off my carboy with cold water and I'm wondering it that shock the yeast or something. It seems to be off and running now. I'll let everyone know how it turns out as the last time I made this beer it turned out great.

My beer looks really strange, not activity

So I got home from work this morning and the yeast appears to be active. Air lock is bubbling and I can see the trub on top of the beer. Plus that big log is now gone. I topped off the carboy after pitching the yeast and I'm wondering if the water was so cold that it shocked the yeast and it...

My beer looks really strange, not activity

Just one liquid vial from White Labs. I didn't check the temp before pitching, but it was room temp so probably anywhere from 70-75 at the hottest. It's crazy looking, almost like a piece of foam. I think eveyr thing was bonding together and then it floated up in the shape of the carboy bottom.

My beer looks really strange, not activity

I brewed this beer on Friday night and as of Sunday I'm not seeing any activity. I've also never seen my beer look like this before. I'm wondering if my yeast is not active because it looks like everything from the bottom of the carboy has bonded together and is now floating around like a brick...

Settling between batch sparges -- how long do YOU wait?

What’s the point of Vorlaufing? I didn’t do it on my first AG this weekend.
  16. K

First AG came out with strange green color

I was using hop pellets, i'm pretty sure a bag opened because i've never had that happen before. Probably had something to do with smoking a rack of ribs and drinking too much at the same time.

First AG came out with strange green color

I’m sure you’re correct I was just surprised it looked that way and it hadn’t cleared at all yet. I normally don’t do a secondary but I’ll for sure do it on this one for sure.

What is wrong with my MLT?

No question i have the plastic. thanks for the info i'll be switching that out this weekend. I'm starting to think i should have just got a strainer flipped it upside down and put that in the bottom of my cooler. At this point it would have been much easier, thanks again for the info.

What is wrong with my MLT?

Not sure, I’m worthless when it comes to building things. The braid I bought had two connectors on the end for a faucet and a plastic tube inside. I cut the ends off and took the tube out, but I’m pretty sure it’s stainless.

First AG came out with strange green color

So I did my first all grain this weekend and it came out with a very strange green color. It’s a pilsner and it had three different hops bags I used so I’m guessing one might have opened during the process but shouldn’t it have cleared or settle to the bottom after a day or two. The fermentation...
