    What is your favorite Yeast?

I wanted to come back here and let you know my experience with TURBO Yeast. I did a Sugar Head run 5 gallon. I did fortify my wash with Used Yeast Cake from a Rye Run with 05- 200ml, Gypsum 2tsp, Absorbic Acid 1tsp, multi Vit B cap contents, Paid attention to the PH 4.8. Actually had to use...

I thought I "did it right"

Buy the right tubing, you do not need o2 drawing ontop of every oz you are transferring

I thought I "did it right"

1st off, back at the Boil. You stated you add DME at Flame Out..../Knock Out. Cool terms are misleading. It takes 37 min of an open Boil to reduce- https://beerandbrewing.com/off-flavor-of-the-week-acetaldehyde/ -50%. Whereas the Yeast are pitched and do create their own as well. Which have...

    Is anyone making hand sanitizer?

Sadly even if you could replicate a patented hand sanitizer there is always the legal slime that wants to sue if you use something not FDA approved or equipped with O&E insurance policy. "Just as in Real Estate" any one who touched the deal is in court from inspector to Title even if it was a...

    First time brewer with questions

Label Peeler or Northern Brewer (Online) "You know that thing you are surfing on". You are about to make Sugar Head for Distilling, It will be a waste of money and time for your application.

Distilling Legally? opinion, thoughts or ideas.

Here is the thing with buying a built Still. The store is required to keep records if selling distilling equipment. Those records are produced on demand, no warrant needed. The ATF or some other 3 letter faction can then "if they have the resources" Knock on your door and ask to see your Still...

    Fastest 5 gallon fermentation time?

4-5 days seems like it is done, but if you look real close towards the bottom you will see some activity, which means it is cleaning up down there and packing in. I have in a pinch where I needed some room have transferred into a keg 7 days. Pref going at least 10 to pick up those last few...

Beer kit instructions confusing: Ace of Spades Black IPA

I run 05 all the time over here.... ALL the TIME. 70-80 is fine too, I have found that when it gets into the high 60's it really slows and takes a while to come down where 04 does better cooler. I'd start now, the longer in the bottle the better. No secondary, antiquated instructions, too lazy...

Cocoa Powder addition to a porter

Nibs- soaked in booze for 24 hours usually 4 oz Organic Nibs in a jar just covered with neutral spirit however Jag's Whisky is a good idea. Powder- challenge is the yeast lag or sometimes stall, at 1014 for me using an 05 yeast. I think it is the oil or something about the powder Hersheys is...

    Everything I make stalls

FWIW- I can take an 1100 down to 0.999 with SAF 05 in 14 days over here. My avg ferment temps are in the 70-75ºf range. I just did it twice in a row, and just pitched 4 gallons on top of that cake and had airlock activity within two hours. Those were all grain at almost 80% 1st wort target. I'd...

I thought I could just bag some grain and hold it for mash

Get back, the 1st time attenuated down to 1001 after 15 days. FWIW. I ran this second batch and was able to get a 1052 1st wort. with the 6 lbs to 3.6 gal of water. My first sparge run off was 1028 using 1 gal at 168ºf. Maybe I did not let it stand long enough albeit I stirred well. Prob about 7...

    Growing my first Scoby

If it is not Moldy it should be good to use. I had no luck with mine. It turned moldy so I tossed it and never tried again. Check out Youtube on what they are doing with it.

I thought I could just bag some grain and hold it for mash

Well the viscosity is still there ( A bit). I took it to 1100 it is down to 1000 with Fermentis 05 but a huge starter, I pitched on top of a good cake the moment I pulled 5 gal of Anchor Steam off it. I know you all are in beer mode and lautering. The adjusted efficiency with heat and...

    Beginner still?

2 weeks later the Guave Brandy is spot on. The Pear Fig is so smooth it tastes like it needs some 101 proof for some heat/bite, as of now it is 80 proof and smooth as a 40 proof! The end of the month bottle and leave it for 6 months. Love this little counter top to run a gallon for fortifying wine.

    Beginner still?

I think that was great input, I will take it under advisement. Right now I am pulling at 101 proof, which equates to about 117 start and at about 92 I cut for tails. Giving me about 101. The first 2oz I toss for Forshots per gallon. I care not if I toss an oz...You should have seen what I...

    Beginner still?

I do not know how much that is, I got 6- 3/4 x 3/4 by 9" White Oak charred from a seller on ebay for about the same. I have my tree guy going to reserve a slab of white Oak the next time he trims one for me... The one stick is in the background jar, waiting for it to air a bit
