    7.0 CF GE Freezer Enough?

Just a quick followup. . .I answered my own question and saw pictures of a quick setup of the same freezer on another blog site. The GE 7CF Chest Freezer, Model FCM7DSWH does hold 4 corny's and a 5lb tank. Just wanted to post this in case anyone does a search.

    7.0 CF GE Freezer Enough?

There is a 7.0 CF chest freezer at Sams for $177. Enough for 4 corny's and a 5lb CO2 tank (tank on the little shelf)? Anyone have this model or one smaller and know the score? thanks. :)

What do you think about bottled water?

I used to use only spring water from the gallon jugs, the basic "store" or generic brand. Would boil 2-3 gallons and chill the rest. I then stopped doing that and just used regular tap water, not boiled, to fill the rest of the batch after cooling the wort. Usually about 2 or 3 gallons. Beer...

    Help on Reading. . .

Just a FYI update on the progress of this kit. I went ahead and left it for another week and checked gravity today. it is a 1.000. Missed the whole 1.010 stage. Racked it to secondary and leaving it alone for 10 days until it reaches .098/.096. I could go ahead and add the stabilizers but...

    Porter Kit question

Been 2 months since the original combination of the flavors. I had racked it off the wine yeast that I used a week or so after combining so it has been aging in a 5 gallon carboy for 7 weeks or so. Flavors have finally combined. Before you would taste it and get the "tang" or "brightness" of...

    Noble Trappist Ale

It took about 48 hours with the yeast but it finally started going and went well. I just racked it to the secondary today. Gravity at 1.008. Taste is green and more bitter than what I was going for or what I thought it would be. I am going to leave it in the secondary for awhile and check...

    Noble Trappist Ale

Oddly enough, the SG was only 1.038 or so at 73Fah. Sheet says supposed to be at 1.048-50. I may have added too much water thought. My bucket primary was still being used so I used my 6.5 carboy and guessed at the 5gallon mark. I have only used that once for a primary and never marked the 5...

    Help on Reading. . .

I have a wonderful select wine kit, red blend, from MW, been fermenting for 7 days pretty actively, slowed down quite a bit now and took the reading (since it is supposed to be time to rack to secondary). Looks like it is a 1.016 @ 73 degrees F. Should I wait a bit more before racking...

    Over Aging Secondary?

So, maybe, if we all had the patience, maybe all beers would do better with a. . .say. . .month to 2 months aging in the secondary. Or maybe it is better just to bottle (or keg) them after 2 weeks and put them in a closet and forget about them for a couple of months. The problem is that once...

    Over Aging Secondary?

Interesting question here (well, maybe not). I think we all agree that if we age the beer longer it will taste better. If we follow the 1 week primary, 2 week secondary, 3 week bottle, we have a decent tasting brew. What if we go longer in the secondary? What if we go 4 - 6 weeks (which...

    Time for Second Brew...Any suggestions

EF, tasty next batch that you can throw in hops that is pretty straightforward would be a standard IPA kit. You can get one from your LHBS or from one of the many online sites you see around, Midwest Supplies, Austin Homebrew, Northern Brewer, etc. You can have more fun if you buy an extra...

    First Time, Its Special

Gottcha, thanks for the comment. I will leave it at 10 psi in the frig since I will be gone today anyway and check it around 6:30 PM or so and see what i have. Hose length is about 6.5 feet for dispensing and the diameter is undetermined, not huge, using a standard kit picnic tap that will be...

Bottling first batch to, need some advice

Howdy, Zo, let's see what I can answer for you. Remember, others might have better opinions, but all I can base this on is my own practice and I haven't had a bad batch yet. I put my bottles through the dishwasher before bottling. I make sure that they are clean going in, i.e., no crud in the...

    First Time, Its Special

Alright, checked on the keg, been at 30 psi overnight. Shook it a bit, heard a little more CO go in. Waited. Shook it a bit more vigorously and no sound. Shook it for about a minute pretty good and no sound. Turned off and Disconnected the gas and then slowly let out the pressure from the...

    Green bottles???

PA, you are not putting the bottles in the frig right away, right? Leaving them in the closet or someplace for a few weeks to condition and carb before chilling? Just making sure that I didn't misread your post and hope I am not offending, you just mentioned that you are new to the process. I...

    Green bottles???

Not sure about all the lighting particulars, PA, but the bottom line is that if you are conditioning in the dark and only exposing your green bottles to the light every once in awhile, then you will be fine. It is not something that if they had light on them for a bit all of a sudden their...

    Moldy Top?

Yep, definitely one of those things where you throw up your hands and say, hmmm, not sure. We went ahead and bottled it and will try it in a week or so. If it tastes bad, time for tossing. I will update at that time. :)

    Prohibition beer

Hey, FB, that sounds like quite the recipe there. Here is a bit of information that I have found for Pabst Blue Ribbon Malt. It appears that during prohibition PBR switched to the manufacturing of Malt Extract for people to brew their own. Here are a few links to more information about Blue...

    First Time, Its Special

Thanks for the "love your avatar" statement. Yep, trying different things out. :) Put it at 30 psi and been shaking it a little bit every once in awhile. Been on there for about 5 hours now and guess I will leave it there overnight. Shake it more tomorrow and see what I have tomorrow night...
