    What are you drinking now?

Sierra Nevada Harvest. Last years. It's still awesome. Can't wait until this year's.

    Hi from Delaware

Ironhill!!! That's an AHA participating brewpub.

    Behold the shiny new kettle!

I use a similar 15 gal, SS Bayou Classic pot as a kettle and I MUST get a bulkhead put in. It's impossible to keep the hot sides off my arms when I transfer. I'm glad you posted this, cause I haven't seen anything but DIY converted Sankes. Can I ask you for details? Which bulkhead, from...

    My 1st real Tasty Brew

Awesome! Nice head you've got there. I know how bad it sucks when they don't come out as well as you were hoping. Congratulations. I like that SN glass by the way. I'm working on a SN Harvest clone. It would be nice to sip from one of those.

    Dark Owl Sweet Stout

I didn't find the Dark Owl recipe until after I brewed. This is the recipe I was going for originally. 7 lbs of Morris Otter 1 lbs of British Crystal 0.5 lbs of Roasted 0.5 lbs of Chocolate 1.5 lbs of Cara-Pils (not in Dark Owl) 1 lbs of Lactose 0.25 of Malto Dextrin (Didn't use...

    Dark Owl Sweet Stout

niquejim, You're right. Definitely not as sweet as Mackeson. I agree with Brandon about the malt balance. You can taste all three, and there isn't too much of one or the other. It's got the sweetness, plus the boldness of the malts coming through a bit more (this is what reminds me of...

    Cream Stout

I wish I knew what made irish cream what it is. I would give up all this beer nonsense for that. Comparable stouts would be Left Hand's Milk Stout, from CO, or Mackeson's XXX Stout, from England. I would try the Mackeson if you can find it. Dumping in some Jameson, that's a good idea.

    Cream Stout

That's it! I'm putting 2 in the fridge tonight. It has begun. :ban: Be sure to post back when you put this thing together.

    Cream Stout

Try Dark Owl Sweet Stout. I've got a batch that's just about carbonated, and I could easily see this addition.

My First Starter, Suck Back in Fridge

Sweet! I'll give this one a shot, thanks.

My First Starter, Suck Back in Fridge

I think I'll try the foil next time. No danger of getting solution in the flask, and it'll fit in the fridge much easier.

My First Starter, Suck Back in Fridge

Hey All, I've used both dry yeast and smack packs, but I've never made a starter until this past weekend. I bought this starter kit from Midwest, complete with 1L Erlenmeyer and 1lb of Light DME, and used their instructions with this link as a guide. The whole process was pretty friggin...

    Dark Owl Sweet Stout

A little more prep before they go in the boxes. The bottom of the bottling bucket. Not too much loss. Warm and flat, yet sweet and stouty. Nice! Time for the boxes. Remember, if you don't rinse your bottle now, it just gets gross later.

    Dark Owl Sweet Stout

Just bottled my first batch this past Sunday. I'll taste one this coming Sunday. Here are a few pics from brew to bottle. Done sparging. Ready to boil. Grain bed after sparging. Contains base, Crystal 60, choco, Cara-Pils, and roasted malts. Brought to a boil, then added bittering hops...

50 ft of copper, what to do?

I bought 50' from coppertubingsales.com, and used all 50 to make something like this. I was thinking about 10 gallon boils at the time, but my ground water never goes below like 72. The welding was kind of a pain, as I suck at it, and I want to make a prechiller like this with no welds...

    Dark Owl Sweet Stout

OMG, you suck. I gotta get a keg setup. I'll probably hit up my local brewpub till it's done.

    Dark Owl Sweet Stout

Oh yeah. It was just right going into the secondary on MLK day, so I didn't add the Maltodextrin. Had a good OG, good FG, tasted sweet and stouty, and I was happy. I will bottle this coming weekend, after the Jupiter Craft Brewer's Fest. I have a Canadian and 2 work buddies waiting to taste...

    Dark Owl Sweet Stout

I brewed almost this exact recipe for the first time last weekend. I used Willamette instead of Chinook, and I used more Choco malt than Roasted Barley. I was thinking about adding Maltodextrin, but I'll have to let it be if it's good as is. I can't wait to give it a taste when I rack to...

hydro reading day 9 no change

Seeing as how my ground water is like 70 year round, I pitch in the low 80s everytime. I haven't had a problem with stillborn yeast thank goodness. The only dry yeast I've used is Safale, and I know different strains attenuate to different FGs. I still need to get a prechiller to bring the...
