    BPA in my wort, pre-boil

That is a very good point.

    BPA in my wort, pre-boil

Thanks. My pitcher might not even have any BPA in it. And yes I'm finding that even the BPA-free products are now being reported as toxic. So disheartening.

    BPA in my wort, pre-boil

Who the heck knows. I'm tired of researching the BPA debate. I still have this theory that the BPA is somehow destroyed in the boil. But maybe I'm kidding myself.

    BPA in my wort, pre-boil

The beer always tastes fine. I'm definitely switching to glass pitchers. Maybe even a stainless mashtun when I can afford it. I seem to be questioning everything lately.

    BPA in my wort, pre-boil

I've been using clear plastic pitchers to drain and recirculate my mash for years. I open the mashtun spigot, pour wort into my pitcher and pour it back on to my mash, manually and continually for about 20 cycles. Been doing this for 6 years with the same pitcher. I use a rubbermaid cooler to...

    Oily Film in Wort Pre-Boil

While brewing yesterday I saw an oily film on the wort the kettle, pre-boil. I was brewing a belgian pale. During the sparge, as I collect wort from my mashtun, the wort trickles into the kettle and produces foam. The transfer hose is too short so the wort splashes into the kettle. Nothing...

Bottling Tart Cherry Cider with low final gravity

That's where I was leaning also. I agree that bottling with the syrup is probably a bad idea. However what if the Belle yeast ferments all of the syrup and I'm back to .99 again. If that happens do you think I should add 1/2 a packet of champagne yeast at bottling, plus sugar? (Can you tell...

Bottling Tart Cherry Cider with low final gravity

I attended Chris Banker's (from QUAFF) Cider Revolution lecture at NHC 2013 Philadelphia this year and was totally inspired to brew my first cider in the fall. All I did was purchase 5 gallons of organic non-spiced cider, filled up a carboy, and added the Lallemand Belle Saison Dry Yeast that...

Ale Pail rubber seal fell into bucket

I figured it was a regular occurence. This just makes me want to go out and buy a bunch of glass carboys though and stop screwing around with the lid/airlock issue. The bucket is less expensive but I know I want glass. My homebrew shop says the 6.5 gallon carboys are on back order and I just...

Ale Pail rubber seal fell into bucket

Hi guys, Yesterday, after I pitched my yeast and put the lid on my fermeting bucket, and while putting my airlock in the lid, I pushed too hard and the black grommet/rubber seal fell into the wort. I had sprayed iodophor extensively on both the grommet and the airlock extensively, prior...
