    How to keep it cheap?

I found someone locally who was selling off grains and hops from a brewery. The owners had a falling out. I grabbed two bags of 2row for 30 bucks each and hops for 8 bucks a pound. Snagged up some Citra, Centennial, Warrior and Cascade. Good to go for a while. Was a bit concerned with the...

    Kettle problem

You should be able to grind that down either with a dremel tool or simple sanding. Find yourself a plug, likely 1/2 inch and proper O-Rings/washers. Treat the hole like any other attachment you would normally affix and you will be fine. Will look a bit silly but who cares, have a homebrew :)

    Low ABV High IBU

Definitely some things to consider. Not sure if my brew shop has amylase powder, may need to order online. Cheers

    Low ABV High IBU

Good thought on removing the 30 minute addition. If I get rid of the 60 and 30 minute additions, do I need to increase the late addition quantities by quite a bit? I suspect I will since the oils won't boil off as quick. Thanks.

    Low ABV High IBU

Thanks Oswald, I was actually thinking the same thing. I only let the spathe sit for 2-3 minutes, likely not long enough. I will try letting it site for 15 minutes next time before I adjust my crush setting which is currently at .042

    Low ABV High IBU

Hey guys I made a my second batch of all grain this weekend and for the second time, I missed my OG by about 18 percent. The expected ABV was 5.5, this batch came in at 4.0. Recipe is 9 lbs 2 row .5 lbs crystal 60 1 lbs carafoam .3 ounces warrior at 60 .3 ounces cascade at 30...

Amarillo / Mosaic and Citra combinations?

Awesome suggestion. I did an IPA a month back with heavy citra additions at 60, found it overpowering. I always thought that leaving out the 60 minute boil would lead to no bitterness but after some research, starting to understand it is not necessarily needed. Thanks for the advice.

Amarillo / Mosaic and Citra combinations?

Hey John, are you suggesting to add this to the fresh squeeze schedule or simply run with your schedule? If your schedule, would this only be a 10 minute boil? Thanks.

Amarillo / Mosaic and Citra combinations?

Thanks for the suggestions. That fresh squeezed clone looks great and right in my ballpark. Much thanks for the advice, I'll give her a go and see what happens. Cheers

Amarillo / Mosaic and Citra combinations?

Thanks guys. My mistake, I meant to say "I only have 2 ounces of Mosaic and 6 ounces of both Amarillo and Citra" I will be using LME, light. I am looking to make a lighter beer, something in the 5ABV range. I have some heavy beers already bottled. Should I be attacking the IBU's different for...

Plastic bottles not conditioning as well as glass

Hey guys. Had a few more plastic bottles IPA's which have been sitting for 5 weeks now. They are not nearly as carbed as the glass bottle version. I highly suspect these bottles just aren't holding the carbonation as they should. Which is quite surprising considering the caps (appear) to lock on...

    Degassing issue zinfandel

Thanks for the replies everyone. I will rack to a smaller carboy, add the fining agents and let it sit for 3 or 4 weeks. Cheers!!

    Degassing issue zinfandel

Thanks guys, I will take the advise and let it sit for a few weeks. Please note that the picture I supplied with the pink foam was taken AFTER I had whipped the wine. Does this still mean that the wine has not fully completed fermentation? It has been in the carboy for 3 weeks. The kit came...

    Degassing issue zinfandel

Thanks for the detailed response. I don't think I'll be going the sparging route, seems like a very advanced method which I would likely mess up :). Should I see ALL the foam disappear when the CO2 has been fully extracted? I don't mind continuing to Degass with the wine whip tool, I just want...

Plastic bottles not conditioning as well as glass

They are all 500ml which makes it strange. I can't figure it out for the life of me. The plastic bottles are Brand new where the glass bottles are quite old. If anything, I would have expected Ted the glass to turn out worse since there is an increased possibility of bad seals etc. They have the...

    Degassing issue zinfandel

Thanks for the reply. When I say pumping the CO2, I am referring to using a vacuum pump to pull the CO2 out of the wine. Some people use a car brake bleeder kit, others use a full on vacuum pimp like those used for ac units. They connect it to the carboy and create a vacuum to pull the CO2...
