Needed for experience: 1 gallon SMaSH recipes

Note: I do 1.25 gallon recipes. I just bottled this one. I use bottled spring water. Initial taste out of the fermenter (warm/flat) was awesome. Hop forward and you get the lemon/citrus taste, very smooth and not harsh. Can't wait till it carbonates. 2.750 lb Vienna Malt 0.140 oz Citra @ 60 min...

I brewed a delicious SMaSH. What should I try next?

There is a thread in this section of the forum that discusses adhering to a particular style. What I took away is that unless your in a competition it really doesn't matter. That is the fun of homebrewing and craft beer, do what ya feel. I use APA for my SmaSh's, I stray on IBU's depending on...

I brewed a delicious SMaSH. What should I try next?

I have a SmaSh Maris Otter/Cascade on it's second week in bottle and it is delicious! My next SmaSh is going to be a Vienna Malt/Citra. Joe, I like that idea of replacing a small amount of the base:) BrewVerymore, don't know if your into Cream Ales but they are simple brews. I've done a couple...

    1-Gallon Brewers UNITE!

My batches are 1.25 gallons. I use a 10 inch double mesh strainer that sits in a colander which sits on a cookie cooling rack on top of my boil kettle. My last batch yesterday I used a permanent golden coffee strainer that has been sitting in my cupboard to get the flour out while pouring into...

Second AG, Dialing In Software, Efficiency, etc

Hey All! Finished brewing my second AG yesterday. A SMaSH with Maris Otter, Cascade hops and using US-05. I am using Brewtarget software for my recipes. For my brewhouse settings I did an evaporation test (plain water) and found 2.945 qt/hr. My batch size is 1.25 gallons, target pre-boil size...

    My First All Grain

Update. Pulled an FG sample (first sample) at 9 days: 1.012. I'm gonna pull another on Tuesday and bottle on Thursday, which will be 14 days. Starting to settle and clear a little. Oh, and more importantly...it tastes really good!:):):D:mug:

    Very First Brew Day

My last AG batch I only pitched 2.5 grams out of an 11.5 gram packet of US-05. The kits suggest pitching half the packet, I still contend that is over-pitching. I went by a pitch calculator, it took longer to get going but was the most active ferm I have witnessed so far.

    Help brewing with pineapple?

Would it be possible to pulp in a food processor then just add in the last 10 or 15 minutes of the wort boil?

    first AG, slow fermentation

This is a great thread. I am also on my first AG and am using US-05. My first extract was with US-05 and the ferm started at 4 hours and was done 4 days later. This batch took 15 hours to start (I woke in the middle of the night to check and it was not doing a thing and got worried) now five...

    Very First Brew Day

Already made the move. Brewed my first AG yesterday https://www.homebrewtalk.com/showthread.php?t=627008. I am gonna focus on doing some SMaSH's and "Brew on the ones" just to get comfortable with base grain and hop relationships. I also want to get more into water chem. Right now I am using the...

    Very First Brew Day

The taste was very good:D. That was actually not the first one I had, but I wanted to post a pic of my very first batch. From what I have learned on HBT is that secondary is becoming less common. I did not move to a secondary.

    Question About SRM

Interesting. I have an electric stove and I try to keep the boil down to a slow roll, right around med-high. I walked away and left it on high after the hot break and first hop edition. Guess I'll see when it hits a glass.

    Question About SRM

I was wondering that if you have too hard of a boil will it effect the SRM.

    My First All Grain

Awesome brew day! I hit all my SG targets within 2 points. Brewtarget said my pre-boil SG should be 1.032, actual was 1.033. Brewtarget said my OG should be 1.050, actual was 1.051. As long as I did everything right and my ferment temp can stay constant I should have a pretty good...

    My First All Grain

My first two were hop forward. My wife wants a malt forward, so I have to go with the Cream Ale. "Happy Wife, Happy Life":)

    My First All Grain

bleme, thanks for the suggestion to use the oven for temp keeping. I figure if I set it to warm and then shut it off it should hold the temp of the mash pot within a couple degrees. I have a 2 gallon igloo cooler that I am going to use for a mash tun. My local Lowes has the fittings I need to...

    My First All Grain

Alright, I don't know if I am doing this to soon, but WTH. I just finished bottling my second batch and it is a extract kit, my first (turned out and tastes very good!) was an extract w/specialty grain. Now I am jumping right into AG and it is not a kit...am I going to fast? Anyway, I...

Moving To AG, Grain Bill Question

I read the online edition once through about 3 weeks ago. Great book! I'm gonna reread the All Grain section through again. I have seen some that mash the base malts and then steep the specialty grains in the wort, so I was a bit confused.
