Copper / Heat Transfer help needed

So I've decided to build a copper CF chiller. I have a 50' roll of 1/2" tubing and a 50' roll of 7/8", but now that I have these I'm worried that it would be as efficient as the commercial copper CF chillers that use convoluted copper. What are your thoughts on making a 50' CF and can...

In need of SERIOUS help! EXPERTS NEEDED!!

Well there's hope then! So now I have two more questions: 1) are any chemicals needed (e.g. met-K, etc.) and 2) I fractioned the wine into 5 gallon cubitianers. I chose these because they were relatively cheap and I wouldn't have to worry about the wine staining my fermentors or...

In need of SERIOUS help! EXPERTS NEEDED!!

I appreciate you asking! I contemplated updating the thread but didn't want to drag this out any further. The wine doesn't taste foul but it is pretty tart/sour. I'm hoping that the tartness isn't due to contamination. Any suggestion on how to tell if it's contamination or not and if...

Repair needed for a Rubbermade 10g Cooler

So over the weekend I decided to add a thermosight to my HLT. In drilling my 3/8" hole I managed to drill next to 1 of only 2 bubbles/waves on the internal wall (warped from the heat of past brews). Because of its location I am unable to get the o-ring, washer, & nut assembly on. I'd...

In need of SERIOUS help! EXPERTS NEEDED!!

Thanks John - I know this is the traditional way of making wine and that there are wild yeasts that are capable of fermenting the wine. I was just surprised that for a group of guys that put this much money into it do it this way every year.... I was just surprised by their process (not...

Greg - You can't believe that it took me 8 hours to destem the grapes (as in it shouldn't haven't taken that long) or you can't be I had the patience to destem the grapes by hand?

In need of SERIOUS help! EXPERTS NEEDED!!

I need experienced wine makers to save my wine!! Long story short - I was pulled into a group of winemakers that make wine from grapes every year. I mentioned to one of them a while back I thought it would be cool (I make beer), but I'm not a huge wine drinker and I never asked them to buy...

    dry hopping a keg?

Thanks for the info...so are you using whole hops for this? I've also heard that dry hopping the keg will only give me aroma. Will it give me that good citrus, grapefruit-like bite or just aroma? I also heard heating the hops in water first will extract those oils to give you the flavor.....

    dry hopping a keg?

So I made an IPA thats not hoppy enough for my taste (lacking the good citrusy/piney topnotes). It spent 2 wks in a primary and 2.5 wks in a secondary in which it was dry hopped. I want to move it to a keg now.... Would adding cascade to the keg give me that missing hop note I'm looking...

    Costs for a welded stand

I've finally made some contacts that can get the materials and weld a modified tippy dump (SloBrewer's Design) for me. I have two questions for you are regarding the cost to build: 1) I was quoted for $106 for materials (1" x 2" - 14ga box tubing). To me the costs seem resonable but I have no...

    Extract Duvel Recipe Wanted

Thanks Austin! Others input welcomed. I'm an all-grain'er and looking for a kit for a friend who's new to brewing. I'm interested to see what others recommend as far as kits to see the difference in grains, ME, and yeast. As I've read around I'm more curious than anything.
