English Ales - What's your favorite recipe?

@worlddivides You of course do know that homebrewing in Japan is illegal, right? At least above 0.5% ABV https://www.explore.com/1782814/unexpected-alcohol-law-tourists-know-before-visiting-japan-homemade-drinks-illegal/ FYI, Chris Colby, on Basic Brewing Radio, critiquing Brown Ales. :p...

English Ales - What's your favorite recipe?

For those that are interested, read through the Jim's beer kit thread on recreating the Boddy recipe. Tony spoke to someone that had worked at the brewery who suggested dried Nottingham yeast. I've tried that (Notty is my "if you could only have one yeast" yeast), but found the Manchester (who...

English Ales - What's your favorite recipe?

In my experience, Manchester Ale get's you very close to Boddy's. If you haven't seen this and want to do a Boddinton's, then Tony's Pre-1970 Boddington's Clone Recipe (boakandbailey.com)

British Golden Ale Miraculix Best - Classic English Ale

Made my first bitter/homebrew in more than 2 years, which is now spunding away with 20 gr EKG dry hop. I'm rusty, and unintentionally thin. Didn't take good notes either. Prolly 1032 OG and 1008 FG with old leftover hops, old LME, torrified wheat and a fresh pitch of Pub. Expecting watery...

English Ales - What's your favorite recipe?

About 30 years ago, I drove from Bega back to Sydney. Not sure how many long white sand beaches we stopped at that were completely deserted. Well over a dozen and passed by a few dozen more. It was glorious. Redback was the only microbrew I knew of at the time.

English Ales - What's your favorite recipe?

Your beach is only about 2 miles long. Must really suffer on Christmas afternoon to get out there. Snoqualmie is the closest ski area near seattle (under an hour's drive). Challenge is the base area is only about 1,000m/3,000ft elevation. Usually the temp is right around freezing at the base...

Enhancing My Munich Dunkel: Feedback and Future Brews - Gold Winning Recipe

Pretty great stream of consciousness, minimal punctuation, semi-rant that is also informative and amusing to read. Well done, Sir!!!

Need a substitute for London Ale III aka Boddinton's yeast

BTW, someone on these boards sent me the Manchester yeast when cleaning out their collection. Embarrassed to admit I don't remember his name now, but still a shout out. ;)

From the lab - family tree of White Labs yeast

@dmtaylor can you share a link to the magnum opus yeast strain spreadsheet you have been carefully cultivating and confirming for the past several years (decades?) ?

Need a substitute for London Ale III aka Boddinton's yeast

Obviously have not updated this for a while. WLP038 Manchester Ale yeast and Tony's Pre-1970 Boddington's clone recipe is pretty dang good! Northern Brewer and I compared the canned versions of UK and US Boddy's 2-3 years ago in the nitro cans. US version has a bit higher FG, so a little...

Need a substitute for London Ale III aka Boddinton's yeast

West Yorkie (1469) is a good yeast, and in my top 5 rotation. Notty is my "if you could only have one yeast forever" yeast.

British Golden Ale Miraculix Best - Classic English Ale

How does Machine House mild rank? ;) It's one Englishman's take on mild, but I love this stuff. Recipe and hints from the brewer are here. BTW, 11th anniversary today. Have some strong ales on gravity pour that are pretty good, also unveiled a Cascade hopped bitter on cask. Cascade are not my...

    Machine House Mild Clong

updated that Machine House is live and kicking in the Hillman City district of seattle (5718 Rainier Ave S, Seattle). It's one interpretation of mild, but a damn fine one.

British Golden Ale Miraculix Best - Classic English Ale

I am especially sensitive to "cat whiz" aka "catty" aka comes across as very skunked. I can't stand most American hops, especially the C family, as these usually manifest to my palate as dank, skunked, cat whiz. It's a meme with my LHBS regular crew, and while I take a sip of all beers, I...
