    How to test alcohol content?

    I have my 3rd ever batch of mead in the primary. Made it a week ago, I never took a hydrometer reading. How do I test the alcohol content?

    Yeah I'm kind of going for that feel of cider especially with fall & winter right around the corner, last cider I made was awful, this wine just a little sweeter was the taste i was going for. This sounds like the plan. thanks man.

    before you stir up the bottom what kind are you making because about 99% of the time stirring anything in a bucket during the fermentation process is a horrible idea.     Winter Mead (melo-meth)

    primary fermentation... 2 weeks. do I have to rack it after 2 weeks, or can I just let the primary fermentation die down first cause Ive had it in the first for about a week and a half now.

    sediment on bottom

    I just realized, that out of stupidity I used my secondary carboy for another batch of mead. would it be cool if I siphoned the mead into a bucket, cover it for a few minutes while i clean out the primary carboy and then re-rack it? or would the double siphoning disturb it too much?
