    Fizz Drops

Thanks for the answers guys! I wore a latex glove and dropped them in! The glove may be excessive, but I am paranoid when it comes to sanitation lol Cheers to you all!

    Fizz Drops

Just bought a new gallon batch from Northern Brewer, they gave me a pack of fizz drops to carbonate each bottle. Is it necessary to sanitize the drops before putting them into the bottles? I have never used them before. The instructions don't mention sanitizing them so I'm just double...

    Beer haze causing off-flavors

So I just had an epiphany! The past three brews I've made have all had a very buttery/diacetyl type taste. Today I poured one of those home brews and was surprised by the clarity when I did not pour the bottom half inch of the bottle. I then took a sip and realized that the buttery...

    Forgot to aerate....

I've recently brewed a couple brews with minimal aeration, and no matter the type of beer I ended up with a buttery/butterscotch off flavor. This is due to diacetyl build up. Oxygen prior to the yeast pitch (8-12 ppm) is beneficial for the yeast. It strengthens the cell wall and also...

    Cooling down quickly

Should work assuming the cutlery is sanitized, the issue I see is having to fish the silverware from your wort. If you can figure out an efficient way to do that without contamination have at it! Good luck! :rockin:

    Question about cleaning fermenters

I have used soap and water before without an issue. I also have cleaned my fermenters (both glass and plastic) with no soap, only a rinse from a garden hose. Haven't had an infection yet. Sanitization is the key! Cheers :mug:

    Equipment for getting into Homebrewing

I would say all four of those things are necessary! A bottling bucket, Siphon, and Bottle Filler make racking your brew into bottles ten times easier. I can't imagine not using them. In my opinion I believe the airlock is a must have also. In a plastic fermenter it lets me know if...

    Color during fermentation

Yep! Looks perfectly normal man. The Amber ale I just brewed looked exactly like that, just give it some time! :rockin:

Can I try a bottled beer after four days?

It won't hurt ya, but it may lack carbonation! I say go for it. If you don't like it, wait another week or two. :mug:

    Tap Water

Thanks for all the answers! I know on my second batch it may be a little ridiculous worrying about water chemistry lol, but I want my brew to taste as good as possible! I'm currently brewing five gallon batches, so would I just cut a camden tablet into fourths? As for my tap water composition...

    Tap Water

Aye! About to make my 2nd batch, this time I'm brewing a Scottish ale. For my first batch I made, I used five gallons of distilled water from the store and it turned out just fine. My question is, will brewing with tap water be alright? My tap water is not from a well so it seems pretty...

    remove labels

I've been using dish soap and warm water to get the labels off. Just let them soak and they usually just scrape right off. The glue is a different story though, I've been using Goo Gone for the glue. Not sure if other beer breweries use glue that is easier to get off, but I've been using...

Sounds good! Thanks for the info :mug:

    Bottling early?

Yeah I thought about that! I'm just excited to finish my first batch lol. I might just wait

    Bottling early?

I do have a hydrometer! When using it, what would be a good indicator that it is ready for bottles?

    Bottling early?

Hey there, I'm a new home brewer attempting my first batch. It is an Amber Ale which came with step by step instructions. I'm brewing a 5 gallon batch in a plastic fermenter, I peeked inside today and there is no krausen. Would it hurt to bottle the beer about 36 hours early? The directions...
