Did I Take the Yeast Out?

When I took the sample, it was cloudy but it eventually settled at the bottom of the hydrometer. I didn't remove the lid and I triple checked that there's no leak in the lid or airlock. Would it be worth adding another pack of Hefe yeast?

Did I Take the Yeast Out?

Hey guys, Yesterday I brewed a Hefeweizen. Everything went well, transferred to the fermenter, pitched Yeast, awesome. I'd say two or minutes go by and I realized I forgot to take the OG reading. I hurrily fill the hydrometer via my fermenter's ball valve. I used two White Labs Hefeweizen Ale...

    Fermwrap question

Great call on insulation to promote the fermenter to keep it's warmth! Didn't even think of that.

    Bottle Conditioning a Lager

Hey guys, I'm going to bottle condition my German Pilsner coming up this Friday but I'm curious if lagers/ pils need to be bottle conditioned at Lagering temps (35-40 degrees F), Lager fermenting temps (45-50 degrees F) or regular bottle conditioning temps of 60-70 degrees (room-temp). If...

    Fermwrap question

Don't know if davidhenry figured this out but I've been using the fermo-temp/ fermowrap as of late to control the fermentation temp with the coming cold temperatures. Fermenting an ale at 68-70 degrees F along side a lager in a chest freezer at 40 degrees F is very possible. The major...

    Label Requirement Questions

Good afternoon guys and gals! My questions is simple: Are there any legal requirements for a homebrewer to add to his or her beer label if they're not selling it? I'm finishing up my labels but it crossed my mind that I may get in trouble. I plan on legitamately passing my beer out to all of...

Adding Cane Sugar to raise ABV

Yeah I was a little confused on the effects of adding cane sugar but I did some research and learned it can change the body of the beer tremendously. My assumption was that adding cane sugar would strictly raise the ABV and dry out the beer but that would just be too simple right? I'll end up...

Adding Cane Sugar to raise ABV

Very interesting. I will go ahead and add the cane sugar towards the end of the boil. I still need to figure out how much I want to add but I'll do a little bit more research. Thank you again! Cheers

Adding Cane Sugar to raise ABV

Would their be any benefit in adding the cane sugar at 45 min vs. adding it at 5 min? Or would I just lose hop utilization? Thank you for the help, friend!

Adding Cane Sugar to raise ABV

Hey guys, My next brew will be an all-grain Belgian Blond Ale and I want to incorporate cane sugar in order to raise the ABV with out effecting the body or taste. I want to ensure the ABV is between 7-8% so I don't want to add too much. My question is, in which part of the brewing process...

    Strike Water Temp Issues

Hmmm, very interesting. I will most definitely try to play with the temperature of the strike water and the mash tun. I'm a firm believer of trial and error. Thank your the help. Cheers!

    Strike Water Temp Issues

I'll make sure to add the grain to the strike water instead. It was pretty difficult adding the water to the grain and thoroughly mixing. The temperature was probably not incorporated efficiently. I only have one all grain brew under my belt with this equipment so I'll just keep making minor...

    Strike Water Temp Issues

That makes a lot of sense. I'll definitely do my best to preheat the tun to the specific temp instead of just tossing in boiling water. I used the brewblogger 2.3.2 to calculate the temp. It has an equipment loss section, which I have no idea what means. I'm trying to brew more frequently...

    Strike Water Temp Issues

Hey guys! I conducted my first all grain brew this past Friday and everything seemed to go well except for my strike water temperature. My target temp was 149 degrees F, single infusion. I had 14.75 lbs of grain at a water/grain ratio of 1.25 quarts/ 1 lbs of grain. Strike water amount was about...
