Dead Ringer IPA kits 19.99 at NB

I'm in the business of keeping as much in my bank as I can while enjoying great beer. This last time around I got a couple DRs and Black IPAs along with some roasted barley. Since I'm not big on IPA, I broke open the Black IPA kits and have a stout in the carboy next to the Amber that I used...

    Keeping Star San

I store mixed starsan in the plastic LME bottles. Those things are pretty handy, I also use them as ice packs for cooling wort and maintaining fermentation temp.

Dead Ringer IPA kits 19.99 at NB

Maybe in Jacksonville. Our shop in Pensacola is more of a wine shop, they have a few generic kits, a dozen or so hops, bottle caps, etc. Online this is a pretty good deal

Dead Ringer IPA kits 19.99 at NB

Yep, and the Dead Ringer was has the best value for the dollar. Everything else listed is the standard 6 lb LME with grains, they look good though. I would get more if I had the money.

I haven't had it. I figured I could get 4 or 5 brews from the LME making different recipes. Hard to get that much for the price. Maybe I'll brew one kit.

Dead Ringer IPA kits 19.99 at NB

Just got an email this morning.. choose 3 of 6 kits for 19.99 til midnight Tuesday. So I made it worth my while and got 3 Dead Ringers. That's 27.45 lb of Gold LME, 3 lb of Briess Caramel 40, and 15 oz of Centennial hops for just under $60 plus 7.99 flat rate.... Oh the possibilities! :mug:

Can I bottle beer in screw-on bottles w/38mm lids?

Screw on caps seem to have a limited life. I was using some screw on pint bottles with good heavy plastic caps that came with them. After a certain number of uses I would have a few that would have trouble carbing. I bought replacement caps online. The aluminum replacements have a life of...

    Extract brewing is FAKE brewing

damn... I have a fake buzz

Sanity check my ginger beer recipe?

A few months ago I came across a thread on another site that wish I had bookmarked. But the best method they could cite to extract ginger was to simmer a couple inches in two cups of water for about 20 minutes. Then, pour off the water (save it of course) add another cup of fresh water to the...

    Water/Yeast Addition

You want to aerate (introduce oxygen) your wort at this point so the yeast will grow and reproduce. Many people here rehydrate yeast before pitching it into the wort. Just add it to a cup or so of room temp water a few minutes before. Normally, I will pour the wort through a funnel into the...

    Finished...now....?

I've brewed this stout. It was a bit harsh less than a couple weeks in the bottle, but has mellowed nicely. This is a good smooth stout.

What's your general cleaning/sanitizing procedure (and for bottles)?

I rinse my bottles after pouring to get out any residue. Then I'll run them in the dishwasher with a wash cycle and the sani-rinse cycle. The key is to use regular, cheap store brand powder soap along with a couple drops of dawn, they come out squeaky clean, no residue or spots. On bottling...

What are your contrarian/"unpopular" beer opinions?

Agreed IPAs are overdone. I ditched my hydrometer... haven't used one for a long time. My beer comes out great and gets me feeling good. :drunk: Never used corn sugar/dextrose. Beer tastes better with cane sugar.

    priming sugar ?

I've only used cane sugar since I started home brewing. A little under 2/3 cup for a 5 gallon brew is good.

    Remove Hop Scuzz From Carboy

Can paint strainer bags effectively filter break material?

Thanks petrolSpice. I like to be innovative without it being expensive.

Can paint strainer bags effectively filter break material?

Yes hanging the bag works. I had tried JohnSand's way a couple weeks ago with the same frustrations. So today, I rigged a couple of coat hangers to hang the bag in my bottling bucket, then cut a few inches of plastic tubing to run from the spigot into the mouth of the glass carboy. The only...

Help with 1st time beer brew please?

When I started home brewing it was helpful for me to have a guide. There are a number of them that come up thru a Google search. Such as https://www.homebrewersassociation.org/how-to-brew/beginner/how-to-make-beer/ This one is step by step with photos Or Homebrewmanual.com Less photos, more...
