Can I even call this a stout?

I've been reading "Designing Great Beers" and while I'm making progress, skipped ahead to the Stout section in the back. It appears my recipe doesn't include barley at all, which is mentioned in almost all the descriptions. Can I even call this a stout then? 12lbs 2 row 1.5 lbs...

I hate pissing matches w/ my boss

My previous job to this was IT (still is). I went to lunch for over 8 years at the same time, that being 11am-12pm. At my new job i'm to go at 12-1. Today my brain, at an otherwise uneventfull/no brains required IT job, sees 11:21 and I said to myself "**** I'm late going to lunch"... so I...

First time using a false bottom (morebeer's 8g kettle)

I did an extract batch this weekend and didn't think I needed the false bottom. I mean what is it going to catch really? When I bought it I planned on just using it when I do the all-grain mashing. Anyway... I was being lazy and just left it in the kettle when I did my full extract boil...

I want a grain mill.. any opinions on this one?

I'm pretty much settled on this one but was curious if anyone has/had any experience with it? I know nothing about grain mills but this one seems pretty beefy and reads pretty good on the site. I was going to drop 100 bones on a BC but don't mind dropping a little extra if it will be...

Just popped top on some of the recent brews....

The first was an American Ale from morebeer. The carbonation was good, head was good, color was good. The taste however was good right up until after the swallow. It has a slight soapy aftertaste of sorts. The second beer was a Dunkelweizen and it's fine as of the last "uncarbonated"...

Bittering Hops v. use any type?

When going for the bitterness hops, does it matter what you use as long as you get within the range for a style? Say I have Nugget Hops (which i do) at 13%AA and Cascade at 5.5%AA. I want to add bittering hops so I can use the Nugget hops and therefore use less than if I used the Cascade...
