    TA help with traminette wine

can someone tell me why the sample isn't turning color completely?! i'll get to the point the sample is all pink except for the very bottom. i've tried several times and when i shake it, the dang color disappears completely. i've tried shaking the vial after i put the activator drops in...

    TA help with traminette wine

If I could I would use juice and sugar but I only have s few vines and only got what I got, which is 1.5 gal. I'd add sugar but thinl that'll just make it hot tasting. Sugar and water and I may end with a diluted down wine. Potassium carbonate...never knew. I already order calcium and expedited...

    TA help with traminette wine

Wow. Just realized last night before going to bed that I am doing it freaking backwards. I'm taking test sample and the more sodium hydroxide I add without it changing color I'm thinking I need to add acid to the must. When it's really telling me that's how acidic the must is! Adding all that...

    TA help with traminette wine

Maybe I'm not explaining it right. I am taking a must sample. Testing it using the test kit which includes activator and then the addition of sodium hydroxide. Not being able to get it to turn after adding the whole 3ml of sodium I toss it. Then add acid blend to must. Stirred it. Then took...

    TA help with traminette wine

Guess I'm not getting it. When I tested the gewurztraminer I took a sample right from the must. Following the directions and adding sodium hydroxide until sample has turned color completely, it wasn't until I added 10 teas of acid blend to the most that the samples changed color and again going...

    TA help with traminette wine

So here's my issue. Last year I pressed my traminette grapes for the first time. I didn't have a TA kit so I didn't test for it. I just threw in a teaspoon for the one gallon that I had and called it a day. This year I bought a TA kit and made some gewurztraminer from concentrate and used the...

    larve after pressing?

    larve after pressing?

so i have a question that i never really thought of until just now. i pressed my first grapes from my vines last year. After i did so i noticed small worms (larve) in the liquid. i did filter it after i noticed and the wine was crystal clear when bottled. But I am wondering, has any one seen...

    Making wine from grapes

looking ftoward to it. I don't have many clusters. Two reasons, small area so only planted three vines but this being year three it's just starting out. Assume I'll get more as years progress. I bought some gewurztraminer juice to supplement but now I am thinking I'd like to taste the whole...

    Racking to Secondary

Reading your post. Why don't you use a nylon jelly bag or something next time. Works great for me when I do blackberry wine and watermelon. You would need a bucket for that. But then you don't need to worry about a colander.

    Making wine from grapes

Ok. I've read that. That traminette has a good balance or can have a good balance. About this time of year they really come together. Darken, pinkish green, taste is sweet, seeds are woody not bitter. I just went ahead and bought a stainless press. Hey, do you add yeast before pressing or do you...

    Making wine from grapes

Also, what am I looking for with the TA on the traminette.

    Making wine from grapes

Thank you for the response. Perhaps the juicer would release bitterness as it would likely crush the seeds somewhat. I'll get a TA kit. So how do you go about pressing the grapes using a colinder. Could a potato masher work? Wonder if I can make a jerry rigged one out of a handle, round cutting...

    Making wine from grapes

I've been growing traminette grapes. It's year 3 now and I plan on making wine. Got a few questions. First, I don't have a press. My plan was harvest and sort then use a juicer. Since the juicer separates pulp from juice I planned on taking pulp and using a mesh bag let it sit in juice for a few...

    Topping up/off

So here's a confusing story. My 2nd try at blackberry is damn terrific. I used sweet mead yeast and didn't add camden unail just recently when the wine was about 3.5 months. Little headspace in one gallon and quite a bit in the 2nd. I needed to rack it so I did and reduced it to 1.5 gallon with...

    Topping up/off

Ok. I'm making note already to make more and set aside. Might need to get some bungs for 750ml bottles and go that route once half gal gets low. Let's face it, even if I use concentrate to top off half gallon it would ferment in a week or so compared to the 60 days I'll be letting the main wine...

    Topping up/off

How do your top off? So I I take a can of concentrate and make 2 gallon of wine. After primary fermentation I can get 2 gallon filled. But then after 60 days once you rack off lees you end up with less liquid. What do you add to top up to control headspace? If you add water don't you run risk of...
