    Beer expert GPT

I created a "beer expert" GPT for (fed it some info and gave basic instructions - nothing fancy). It can give advice on beer, beer history, home brewing, etc. You need ChatGPT Plus to access it, unfortunately, but here's a example of a conversation: Canadian Beer History Full tool : ChatGPT...

Old mini-fridge - punctured cooling line - Can I still used the compressor for something?

Hey, I got a used mini-fridge for free that I wanted to convert to a kegerator. A GE model with the freezer at the top. Following a few threads I found online, I tried bending the freezer part (that had the cooling lines in it). I was doing slowly, but at some point, it happened: it started...

Homebrew Helper voice assistant now live on Google Assistant

Hi again! I just made a small modification: it can now also be invoked with "Ask Homebrew Helper". For example, these should work right from Google Assistant: Ask Homebrew Helper (gets to the start of the agent) Ask Homebrew Helper about ingredients in a Munich Helles Ask Homebrew Helper...

Homebrew Helper voice assistant now live on Google Assistant

Hi everyone! If you have a device with Google Assistant (a Google Home or an Android phone), you can now talk to the Homebrew Helper voice assistant! You can invoke the assistant by saying: "Ok Google, talk to Homebrew Helper" Because it deals to with alcohol, Google requires that the first...

Ideas for a brewday voice assistant?

I made other improvements. You can get some info by style (coming from the BCJP). You can say/type the things like that: - Describe an schwarzbier - How many IBU in an american pale ale - What's the color range for a American Lager - Target OG for an American Barleywine - Can you give me...

Ideas for a brewday voice assistant?

Hi again, I made a few improvements in the last few days: - you can identify an off-flavour directly (without having to first type "identify an off flavour" (e.g. you can type "why does my beer taste like vomit", and you get an answer) - I added simple measure conversions (volume, weight...

Ideas for a brewday voice assistant?

I know this would be cool... That said, anything that requires recording something for a certain period (more than the conversation), or spitting back a report sent to a specific address, for example, makes it way more complicated. It involves more work on the privacy notice front as well...

Ideas for a brewday voice assistant?

Hi again! I managed to get quite far in building a "conversational agent" (i.e. both a chatbot and a voice agent, powered by the same logic). Before I try to "publish" the voice agent to a Google Action (and maybe eventually to Alexa), I was able to put the equivalent chabot on a web page...

Ideas for a brewday voice assistant?

I just thought of another one: off flavours. And it could be both ways: - get details of specific issue ("what does diacetyl taste like" - describe an off flavour in a few words, and get the likeliest match

Ideas for a brewday voice assistant?

I can try to build the necessary "conversation" I'm DialogFlow (to be eventually ported to a Google Action and an Alexa skill), but I the JS needed to read the iBeacon and parse the data is over my head too... We'll see!

Ideas for a brewday voice assistant?

But that's the thing: using a software like DialogFlow, you can build Google Actions and Alexa skills that handle specific conversations. The downside is that you need to download the skill (Alexa) or invoke the Action (Google). For example, you could say "Hey Google, talk to Brewday...

Ideas for a brewday voice assistant?

Hi everyone, I started playing around building voice assistants (that can be invoked through Google Home or Alexa, for example). Just for fun, I may try to build an assistant you can summon with your voice (while brewing, or bottling, for example), to get some answer "hands-free". The first...

You know you're a home brewer when?

You know you're a home brewer when you sell most of your brewing stuff (GrainFather, kegs, CO2 bottles, Tilts, Beergun, mill, everything) because you fell like you're drinking too much, and that you don't like spending 5-6 hours on the brewing process during the weekend)... And then you find...

Blog post: How to design a recipe

Hey! I've been writing a homebrew blog in French for some time. I'm trying something new today: I translated my latest post in English: https://desgrainsauverre.com/2018/12/13/how-to-design-a-homebrew-recipe/ Let me know what you think! If there is some interest for the English post, I may go...

What does this recipe make? (Grandpa's mystery brew)

I'm thinking it's missing an instruction line (on purpose, likely): "Run the wash twice through the ******, and discard the first ounce", or something like that.

    Beau’s Lug-Tread Lagered Ale clone

OK, so I'm pretty sure low 50s is too low for WLP029. I just fermented a Kölsch (Jamil's recipe) at 60F, using WLP029. I ramped it up for a D-rest (to be on the safe side), and plan on doing approx 2 weeks of lagering before kegging. I took a simple when fermentation was done, and it was...

    Beau’s Lug-Tread Lagered Ale clone

Looks like a solid recipe, but i'm not sure about yeast selection and fermentation schedule. Their site says they use a "German ale yeast", but that doesn't necessarily mean it's the Wyeast 1007 (it could be real Kölsch yeast, like WLP029 or Wyeast 2565, or any other "german ale" yeast). That...

Getting hops out of wort and beer

I think you are overcomplicating things... No big deal on having hop debris going in the fermenter. And any dry hop will drop to the bottom with cold crash (use a swamp cooler if your fermentation setup doesn't allow for cold crashing). Dry hop 24-36 hours, then cold crash. As for the flameout...

You know you're a home brewer when?

When you manage to somehow order 6 pounds of hops through a group buy, even if you use 3-8 oz a month.... At least my kegerator has a freezer at the top and won't fill the family freezer,, so the wife won't kill me before I have a chance to use the said hops.

A new homebrewing blog in French

Hi everyone, I know that the vast majority of you don't speak French, but I just started a homebrewing blog in French (my mother tongue, obviously): https://desgrainsauverre.com/2017/09/16/creer-de-la-biere-les-grandes-etapes/ Most of you won't learn much from that first post, but I...
