    Better than Apfelwein...

Sorry to bump an old thread but I think this is the best place to ask. I have a wheat beer with Wyeast 3068 in my fermenter that will be ready to come out next week. Can I pitch my apfelwein ingredients straight onto the cake immediately after bottling?

Using pressure barrel as bottling bucket

Just wanted to say that I gave this a try with water and it didn't go well, seems you're better off with a proper bottling bucket than trying to improvise one with one of these pressure barrels.

Using soda water bottles - are they sanitary?

Yeah I have seen StarSan on Amazon UK, but including delivery it's about £20, that works out at roughly $30, any US people able to let me know if that's reasonable? Considering I can buy it at a local pharmacy for around £5 I'm leaning towards iodophor, are there any fellow UK brewers that...

Using soda water bottles - are they sanitary?

Thanks for all the responses, seems like the general feeling is that shortcuts aren't worth the risk. I have Wilko Brucleanse, which isn't a very convenient cleanser/sanitiser since it requires a good rinse (surely this negates the work it does unless using boiled, cooled water? I struggle to...

Using pressure barrel as bottling bucket

To answer your question Mart1986, I'm going to put a priming solution (sugar and water) into the pressure barrel and siphon all the beer from the fermenting vessel into the pressure barrel, then use the tap with some tubing attached to fill bottles. The idea is that it will allow me to mix the...

Using soda water bottles - are they sanitary?

Hello, My first batch is fermenting and bottling day is fast approaching, I'm going to be using 1L plastic soda water bottles from Aldi since they can take the fizz and shouldn't impart any residual flavours to the beer. A friend has told me that if I pour away the soda water just before I...

Using pressure barrel as bottling bucket

Thanks for the advice, I'll update once I've given it a try. From what I can tell quite a lot of UK newbies start with one of these Wilko starter kits so hopefully others will benefit from this.

Using pressure barrel as bottling bucket

Hello, I'm new to brewing, got my first brew sitting in the primary right now and I'm thinking ahead to bottling day. I don't have a bottling bucket but as far as I can tell, this: http://www.wilko.com/homebrew-accessories+equipment/wilko-pressure-barrel-23l40-pints/invt/0022554 Which...
