Thanks everyone for your input. I did eliminate the special b and in its place put in some black patent malt. Brew day went ok had some issues with my plate chiller clogging up and had to use an ice bath to cool it down instead.

Ok thanks so much for the tip on the hydrometer. I had never heard that before. I will do that in the future. The taste has been fine. It hasn't been overly sweet so I am guessing it was the refractometer that was throwing my readings off.

I am reading a lot of hate for crystal malt in an IPA online. Why is that? Why the negativity for using crystal malt in an IPA? Also right now this beer is marked at about 5.9 SRM how could I get a little more color in there without adding more of the dreaded crystal malt to the grain bill?
