So after a 48h lag the cider is really chugging along. I added 1tsp of Fermaid K before pitching but I'm still getting a pretty strong sulfur smell. Should I add more nutrient or RDWAHAHB?

Just finished pitching the starter. It took off nicely in the last 12 hours or so. Hopefully the cider does as well. The cider still had a vague sulfur smell even ~42h after sulfiting so here's to hoping the sulfites dissipated enough not to harm the yeast.

Well that news sucks. Brewtoad was my go to for inspiration then I'd usually plug the recipe into BS and tweak for my equipment and tastes. Regardless of whether the site was good or not, it's still sad to see such a massive amount of information get trashed.

I spin my hoses to dry them out too. I've got a couple silicone hoses that are starting to get pretty discolored. How often are you guys replacing your silicone lines? Or will a long soak in hot PBW followed with some StarSan take care of any issues?

As Beer-Lord said, its not usually necessary. Dry yeast packets have approximately double the cells of a smack pack so they usually do fine without a starter. If you have the time and think about it you can bloom (rehydrate) dry yeast before pitching. Boil a few cups of water, chill to pitch...

Regardless of fermentable type, CO2 is heavier than air. So, assuming you filled the airlock after hitting 1.030 and it is still in place and full, there should have been little to no air changes between the headspace and the outside air allowing the headspace to remain full of CO2.
