Was planning to brew yesterday but I unexpectedly had to leave town. I have a starter on a stir plate now for 32 hours.
I won't be able to brew until tomorrow as I'm getting home late tonight.
Is the yeast already a waste?
Should I have my wife put the starter in the fridge right...
Glad I found this! I'm 15 gallons into my home brewing adventure and the wife was worried something inside me was dying.
If suspended yeast was the culprit would cold crashing theoretically help the problem?
I swirled it around pretty good before pitching. The smack pack I used was under a month old and it swelled quickly. Temperature during fermentation ranged from 68-70 and the yeast called for 64-72. Im scratching my head on this one. Hopefully it tastes good. Will post the FG when I...
I made a yeast starter and had it on the stir plate for 17 hours before pitching, matched the starter and the wort within 2 degrees. The smack pack was less than a month old. You think I had a low yeast count for it to take 12 days?
So my first batch (extract brown ale) I pitched rehydrated Danstar and it took off like house on fire. Immediate bubbling, at 12hrs I had to switch to a blowoff tube in a 6.5gal carboy, bubbled like a snare drum for 2 days and then quit. Surprisingly I managed to hit my FG.
This second...
Hey guys,
I'm doing a coconut cream ale from Jaspers. The recipe calls for adding coconut extract the day before bottling. My plan is to cold crash in primary and rack to keg. Should I add the extract the day before cold crashing or should I add it to the keg afterwards? Also, when...
I poured a sample last night, exactly 2 weeks after brew day. I know its early but I had force carb'd and figured it couldn't hurt to try.
It is delicious! I can see it will probably benefit with a few more weeks of sitting and letting the flavors develop but its off to a great start...
Well it was a fast fermentation but things seem ok. After 3 days activity had significantly slowed down. 6 days in I took a gravity reading of 1.018, at 11 days it only dropped to 1.017 so I felt it was done.
Racked it to keg yesterday and force carbonated. I may crack the tap for a...
A bit warmer in my basement than usual as it was unseasonably warm yesterday. 71 degrees in the room. I know thats high, too high you think? Generally the room is in the mid to high 60's
