Home Brew Supplies and info in Japan

Been a while since anyone posted on this thread. I’m about to move to Japan (Iwakuni), and I’m curious if anyone knows anything about kegging/CO2 supplies there? I’m not super excited to return to bottling, but I’ll do what I have to do.

Priming Cider with Frozen Juice Concentrate

I am trying something very similar, although I’m doing it with a modified EdWort’s apfelwein, trying to make it sparkling. It was fermenting and otherwise hanging out in my beer/wine cellar (aka closet) for well over a year, so was totally clear. Racked 5 gal into bucket with 1 can of thawed AJC...

    Shiner Cheer recipe

The first time I tried this, I used the Brewer's Best Dunkelweizen extract kit and added the pecan and peach flavors myself. It turned out awesome. I am about to do an AG version using the dunkel recipe found on this thread, but will add the flavorings just like I did before: 10oz shelled...

DIY Beer Gun for Under $40

There will be some mixing of CO2 and O2, but if you do it at a low pressure (3-5psi is the recommendation), the CO2 will displace the O2 because it is more dense without too much mixing. Low pressure purge from the bottom up for 3 sec or so will displace almost all the O2, filling from bottom...

    Ginger Ale (kegged)

I used bleme's recipe and process, with just two changes. 1) I used 3# turbinado sugar instead of the dark brown/white mix. 2) I steeped at 165, and let it sit for ~30 min (most of an episode of Bones). From my own past experience and reading on this and other threads, the lower temp keeps the...

Planning an Icelandic White Ale. Ideas?

Quick update to this thread: I've been through a few iterations of this since I first posted. My most recent was by far the most successful. I started from Schlenkerla's Hoegaarden White Beer Clone, which produced a delicious result that really is pretty spot on for Hoegaarden. But I...

    HomebrewTalk T-shirts Pre-Order

Shirts look great. Can't wait. When I entered my order, I accidentally let the page refresh and then ordered a V-neck small because that's what the default size is. (Meant to order a large) I PMd you TxB, and sent an email to the address on PayPal page. Just hope somebody sees it...

Witbier Hoegaarden Witbier Clone - Pierre Celis White

Brewed recipe as posted, except LHBS only had flaked red wheat, so I got reg white wheat malt. I did forget the spices until the wort was chilled down to about 90deg, so I quickly boiled them in 2cup of water and poured that in before I pitched. I managed to hit 1.046 OG, so I was pretty pleased...

Witbier Hoegaarden Witbier Clone - Pierre Celis White

Subscribed. I am working on an Einstok Icelandic White Ale clone. The flavor and body are a little different from Hoegaarden, but this looks great as is, and should also be a great starting point to make changes. Thanks @Schlenkerla

I think you're right. Only been to a couple of their gatherings, but I shop regularly at Gary's. I work at NAS so it's an easy lunch break trip.

Planning an Icelandic White Ale. Ideas?

Yeah. I need to find some more of the stuff. But for now, my memory is all I've got, and it was a while ago. Think I'll leave amounts of spices alone from a typical wit recipe, I remember those favors being pretty prominent.

    Keg cleaning

Oh yeah. And I haven't washed my coffee mug in a year. I guess it's a navy thing. But the only thing I use to even rinse it out is more coffee.

    Keg cleaning

New to kegging here (read: just got first corny in mail yesterday). Obviously need to thoroughly clean before I start. When you all are saying "soak" in Oxyclean/PBW/whatever, do you mean coat the inside and let it sit or actually make 5 gal of Oxyclean solution (seems wasteful, but what do I...

Just a plug for Gary's over in Pensacola near the Navy base. The Pensacola Homebrewers' Association meets up there about once a month to hang out, brew a couple batches, and swap samples. Great time. If you call up the shop they'll give you the info on the next event.

    Pennsylvania Two ball lock kegs

Weird. Sorry about that. With shipping probably outside my range anyway. Thanks.

Planning an Icelandic White Ale. Ideas?

Been a while, I guess, but this one was different. Maybe I'm not describing it very well, but it didn't have the thick mouthfeel that I remember in the Belgians I've had lately. I am taking down some notes for this brew, though, and I'll keep the 150 and soft water in mind for sure. Thanks.

Planning an Icelandic White Ale. Ideas?

Got hold of a bottle of Einstok Icelandic White Ale a few weeks ago and LOVED it. All the Coriander and Orange zest of a classic wit, but much crisper and lighter bodied, which methinks would be perfect during the upcoming stupid-humid FL panhandle summer. Looked around for a clone recipe, but...
