    Starter Looks Weird

I make my starters with DME and step them up with un-fermented wort I make in a 3 gallon batch. I'll save most of the wort wort in sterile mason jars. I sterilize them in the oven at a slow ramp to 200 degrees then pour in the boiling wort and cap them. After letting the wort settle I always get...

    adding fresh fruit juice

Putting juice in the keg may spark additional fermentation and/or contamination. Adding juices to wort prior to fermentation has definitely been done many, many times. If you add "juice" to the keg, are you planning on drinking it right away or letting it age?

I put gas in through the beer out disconnect - Ooops

Haha, I accidentally did the same thing yesterday. I have been kegging for quite some time and this was the first time that happened. I knew I did it when i heard the beer bubbling like crazy. I turned off the gas and released the pressure in the keg. I had to pry off the connector since it...

    Fermentation chamber

I agree. Lifting the carboys above the fridge is a chore. I like the workout but can see how it isn't for everyone. I thought of building the unit next to the fridge, but the space above was very usable and didn't encroach into my packed garage. I am a man with too many hobbies and garage real...

A few malt husks getting through the false bottom

Dito... I have three gallons of dead space under my false bottom. I tried mashing without it and my gravity landed where I wanted it. The only drawback I see to no false bottom is if you use a heat source under the mash tun and scorch the grains. I try to keep my heat really low and raise the...

    Fermentation chamber

The heating pad and fan only come on when needed. They are plugged into the temperature controller. I am working on a three pulley system to lift the carboys that high. That's my next project after I finish my "water" still... :cross: I am going to circulate through the freezer to make the...

Stacked Dual Chamber Fermentation Chamber Build

Your dual chamber is much prettier than mine. I suck cold air from the freezer using a PC fan...

    haze in my pilz

If it is chill haze, make sure you put finings in while the beer is as cold as possible. You will want to get gelatin+water to about 150F but not over 165F for pitching it into a keg. I use about a third a cup of water and a few grams of unflavored gelatin for a 5 gallon keg. It clears my beers...

    Fermentation chamber

I just joined the forum and wanted to share my idea. I have been reading thread for a while and decided it was time to partake. As with any new idea, it has probably been done before. My fermentation chamber: I drilled holes in the top of my kegerator and attached a PC fan above the hole to...
