Odd plastic taste halfway through fermentation

Feedback on the temp problem is good to hear, I was fearing a more systemic issue.

Craft The Perfect Draft - The 420 Special Wheat

I know a guy who knows a guy...maybe I will throw a half ounce of this beer's namesake in for dry hopping.

Odd plastic taste halfway through fermentation

Thanks for all the replies guys... Just to answer a few questions I've seen so far: -I'm still waiting on the full water report from my town -Chlorine detection was 1.0 ppm (range of .09-1.8) -Fermentation is in it's third week starting today. I plan on going another week and then...

Odd plastic taste halfway through fermentation

Thanks for the advice! That sounds crazy simple to build and is an easy way to help with temps. I'll go with DrJerryrigger's advice as well...sticking to town water for now. It's pretty good water and has made decent beer so far. I'll go through with the batch, no sense dumping it. Maybe...

Odd plastic taste halfway through fermentation

My starting temp was at 68F. When I first started seeing temp spikes, I was going to put it in my unfinished basement. Unfortunately right now in Maine, it can get to 75 in the day and around 40 at night. I didn't want to submit the beer to that fluctuation, nor did I want to jostle the...

Odd plastic taste halfway through fermentation

So I purchased this recipe kit from Northern Brewer and took a gravity reading yesterday. My O.G was 1.045 (.007 below what I should have gotten) and my gravity when tested yesterday was 1.010. I'm using wyeast 1214. My mash and sparging temps met the recipe criteria, 149 and 170...

    Snow!

Indeed, the pine tree state still has a bit of thawing to do. I'm in the Saco area and it got to 40 yesterday! Hoping to have my SN Torpedo clone bottled by the end of March.

    Dry hopping

From what I've read, it is common to put your dry hops in a secondary vessel and then rack from primary onto the hops in secondary. Some people throw the hops in there by themselves, and some people put them in muslin bags. That being said, it is ok to dry hop in primary as well. In about a...

Teavana beet sugar for bottle priming

Will do! I'm proving out a Torpedo XPA recipe right now, so hopefully I can incorporate the beet sugar into my next batch. I'll let you know how it goes :)

Teavana beet sugar for bottle priming

Has anyone ever used this beet sugar from Teavana to bottle prime? It looks similar to some Belgian candy sugar I've seen. I may throw a few grams of it in one of my bottles when I bottle in about 4 weeks. Just curious. Thanks in advance.

    Pellets or leaf?

Thanks for the quick reply :) I'm sure it's all personal preference, but have you noticed any taste difference between the two? Edit: Just saw leaf hops are more preferable for dry and aroma hopping. Pretty much answers all my questions!

    Pellets or leaf?

Hi guys, I'm getting excited looking at all the recipes listed here and can't wait to try a lot of them. One quick quetion though: the hops are listed by weight, but not by type. If the recipe does not specify whether it calls for pellet hops or leaf hops, is it ususally one or the other...

    Greetings from Maine!

Hi everyone, been lurking for about a week here :) I'm new to brewing, 2 batches in but haven't been able to taste any of it yet! I just purchased a new kettle and mash tun, so hopefully my next batch will go a little easier. I've done one all grain and one extract so far. My current goal is to...
