    FG is way off!

It tasted fine, but not overly sweet at all. Maybe 8 days wasn't enough and I should leave it for a few days longer?

    FG is way off!

In using a hydrometer and it was floating just below 1.030.

    FG is way off!

Oh sorry I must have worded that poorly, it's day 8 of being in the fermenting bucket, I pitched normally after the boil, not on day 8!

    FG is way off!

Hi everyone! I have a blonde style ale fermenting as we speak, on day 8. Made from this recipe: http://beerrecipes.org/showrecipe.php?recipeid=5373#sthash.KofXo0lS.dpbs I did an FG reading today and it was really high...around 1.030. OG was 1.042 (I accidentally took the reading after...

Tap water splashed into cooled wort...

Good to know. I've always done full extract boils as I have a large kettle so I've never dealt with top ups but always thought you had to use pre-boiled or bottled water. I feel much better!

Tap water splashed into cooled wort...

I am OCD-ish with my cleanliness and sanitation so hopefully I'll be ok on the water front!

Tap water splashed into cooled wort...

Phew I feel much better! I had a feeling it would be totally fine but you google it and people act like wort is the most volatile thing ever just waiting to become infected by anything.

Tap water splashed into cooled wort...

Tap water splashed into cooled wort...

    What's the worst case scenario?

Tap water splashed into cooled wort...

I had finally got it cooled down, slip of the hand resulted in some tap water splashing in. Not very much. I just went again and pitched yeast and put it away. Are there any chances of this messing up the batch?

    Chiller attachment issues

Interesting! My local homebrew shop sells adapters for standard sinks but it didn't work on my kitchen or bathroom faucet. I'll try this out!

    Chiller attachment issues

Interesting. So the garden hose naturally attaches to the chiller? And the attachment is for the sink or vice versa? Or would I need two?

    Chiller attachment issues

Hi everyone, I finally bought a chiller after months of sink baths and late nights. Was super excited to give it a go, got the attachment for regular sinks and brewed away. When the time came however it turned out the cooler would not attach to either my kitchen or bathroom sink with or without...

High OG reading. Not sure what it means.

Well I'll just roll with it and see what happens I guess. I've heard adding water to the wort can also lead to mixed up gravity readings of you didn't mix them together thoroughly? As long as the batch isn't a lost cause I can roll with it.

High OG reading. Not sure what it means.

So I just finished my second batch, a basic American brown. Trouble started when the cool down (getting a wort chiller for next one) took almost an hour to get it below 80f. I rehydrated the yeast on the recommendation of my local homebrew guy, poured it into the bucket, dumped the wort on top...

    Advice on cooling wort.

Thanks for the awesome advice everyone! I'll try just putting it outside with the occasional stir and see how long it takes, if it's still a long time, I'll try adding in a frozen bottle next time. So happy I found this site, you are all very very helpful.

    Advice on cooling wort.

Maybe I'll go for it, obviously lid on I assume?

    Advice on cooling wort.

Hey everyone! Total beginner here, one batch in, making my second tomorrow! Main concern after first batch was how long it took me to cool down the wort. Due to my faucet I can't get a wort chiller so need to improvise. I did the classic ice bath in the sink but my sink is very small and it took...
