Maximum capacity for a 10 gallon kettle

Hmmm. 20 gallon kettle. My birthday is coming up.

Maximum capacity for a 10 gallon kettle

My typical pre-boil volume for a 5 gallon batch is 6 1/2 gallons. So, if I leave 2 gallons of space in the boil kettle for boilovers and then discount a gallon and a half for evaporation I am down to 6 1/2gallons of finished beer. Seems like time to upgrade the kettle to a 15 gallon kettle so I...

Maximum capacity for a 10 gallon kettle

What is the biggest batch I can comfortably boil in a 10 gallon kettle? 5 gallon batches just don't last long enough. TIA.

    Keg Conditioning?

And what would those factors be?

    Keg Conditioning?

OK, so I just got a kegerator and will be ready to keg a batch of west coast IPA in about 2 weeks. I'm use to bottle conditioning my beer for about 2-4 weeks after I bottle it. Obviously, part of that time was needed to carbonate the beer. But, since I will be using CO2 to carbonate instead of...

    Does crushed grain go stale?

I had my grain crushed planning to brew shortly thereafter. Due to family issues I have been unable to brew and 2 months have past. A brew date is also not in my foreseeable future, unfortunately. The crushed grain is in a plastic bag with a twist tie. It's been kept cool to cold. Has it...

    The best bottles for bottling.

Sounds like a post to the "You know you're a home brewer when" thread when you buy beer based on how simple it is to remove the labels.

When you plan a camping trip and immediately start planning the beer menu.

    Using coffee in beer

I cold brewed the coffee for 12 hours and then added it to the bottling bucket right before I bottled. I used 3 ozs. of espresso blend coffee to 21 ozs of water for the cold brewing for a 5 gallon batch of beer. Pour it through a strainer and into the bottling bucket. Good luck.

First AG, missed OG by 16 points

Been there. Enjoy the beer. The lower gravity should not significantly impact flavor. Think of it this way, you can have a few more beers without getting loopy and the calorie count will be lower, too. Next time, take a preboil gravity reading. That is the time to see where you stand and if...

Thanx for the help. I finally made it to tab 5 on the Bru-n-water spreadsheet and got the answer. Have a great day.

    Water chemistry

When doing mineral calculations using using brew-n-water do you use the volume of all water that will come in contact with the mash, just the strike water, just the sparge water, the sparge and strike separately? TIA. Tom

High ABV Beer Is Rather Flat

Giving the bottles a shake to get the yeast back into suspension may help. I did that with an 8% stout that was slow carbonating and it helped out. Don't know if it was just a coincidence or not but rousing the yeast in the primary definitely helps. So, I see no reason that shaking the...
