    Help identify the issue

Another thought, could it be CO2 coming out of solution due to the temp change warming from cold crash to 70?

    Help identify the issue

Brewed a NE DIPA a week and a half ago with OG 1.077. Pitched WLP007. Added the first round of dry hops (1 oz each Citra, mosaic, el dorado) at day three of fermentation. 4 days later gravity is 1.021, no bubbling from the blow off so assume it’s done and cold crash. I then close transfer rack...

    Safer Brand Pin Lock keg?

Anyone use a Safer Brand Pin Lock kegs? I bought one used and a poppet is leaking. I’m trying to figure out what poppets will work for it. It has strange posts where the nut edges are below the pins where as my other pin locks have the pins coming out of the nut.

    Astringency?? Troubleshoot....

UPDATE: Checked a bottle last night to see how it was coming along. Carb is still a little low, but expected based on a calculation error on my end but the astringency is completely gone. Juice bomb achieved. Somehow getting a orange, banana, strawberry combination on it. Looking forward to...

    Astringency?? Troubleshoot....

The krausen ring looked to be intact, not in the fermenter but I can't be sure. Does that make an impact? What kind of impact? This is what I'm hoping. This was my first time cold crashing that quickly after a dry hop. It was about 36-48 hours after hop addition.

    Astringency?? Troubleshoot....

Thanks all! It was a single batch sparge addition of 23.67 qts at 168*. I am hoping the taste (astringency) whatever it is might be a young beer and maybe hop particles causing the "drying" out sensation. Hoping this clears up (no NE style pun intended) after a couple weeks conditioning. I...

    Astringency?? Troubleshoot....

I treated with campden tablets, 1/2 tab for 10 gallons for chloramines/chlorine prior to heating. I did not add acid to sparge water. Just 4 ml to the mash. Could that be it?

    Astringency?? Troubleshoot....

I did not fine with Irish moss during the boil. Just another variable that I strayed from with this recipe/batch.

    Astringency?? Troubleshoot....

I forgot to include that info. Thanks Norse. Measured variables were; Mash temp - 152 Ph - seemed like it hit the 5.5 range. Hard to tell on the cheap strips. Assuming I'm okay here because I used the Bru'n Water calculator. Collected 8 gallons of wort pre-boil instead of 8.25. PreBoil...

    Astringency?? Troubleshoot....

Thanks!! My process is to mash in a 10gal cooler with false bottom. Built my tap water (see attached for Bru'n Water file) to match Ales of the Riverwards Hop Hands profile (132ppm Ca, 19ppm Mg, 7ppm Na, 147ppm Cl, 146ppm SO4). Hit my mash temp of 152 on the dot tested with a Javelin Digital...

    Astringency?? Troubleshoot....

I'm looking for some help. I've brewed 8 all grain batches and the latest has me stumped. I took a stab at a NE Style Pale Ale/IPA and just bottled last night. Fermented for 4 days at 66 F and added the first dry hop loose with pellets. Waited 4 more days until I thought I had reached FG (1.011)...

    Unintentional Funk?

Sampled my first cider and about ready to bottle. Noticed a funk like tasting note similar to the funk from a Brett beer. I used store bought cider (pasteurized, but no preservatives) and fermented with WLP775 at 68* for two weeks then transferred to secondary and dry hopped with 2 oz el dorado...

    Cider stuck at 1.014

This makes me happy. I just bought the refractometer and was excited to play with it. I found the refractometer tool on BeerSmith to get the adjusted reading. Thank you everyone. I'll be racking tonight and dry hopping soon. Thanks again!

    Cider stuck at 1.014

I added nutrient prior to pitching. I am using a refractometer for Gravity readings? Should I switch to hydrometer?

    Cider stuck at 1.014

This is my first attempt at a cider using 5.5 gallons of fresh store bought cider. Cider was pasteurized but did not have any preservatives. Made a starter with White Labs English Cider Yeast - wlp775. Added 1/4 tsp/gal pectic enzyme 12 hours before pitching. OG - 1.048. At one week the reading...

    First Competition Delivery question

I think my plan will. E to throw them in the fridge until 8/27 and drop them off the last entry day. I'm guessing judging will happen within a day or two after that. Thanks for all the help

    First Competition Delivery question

I have to drop off by 27th. They've been conditioning about 18 days now at 73-74*F. There is no event for the competition. So I don't know when they are judging. You can drop off anytime before 8/27.
