A brew machine for a submarine

I'd like to thank everyone for their ideas and support. I'll be leaving soon to support a vessel in need, and won't be posting or responding until next year. Happy brewing!

A brew machine for a submarine

BadNewsBrewery, I mostly mean "portable" as in I can take it to another house or something. A small electric on-demand heater or large coffee urn is something I think I could run off an extension cord. Going all-electric, though, would require a beefier circuit than most people have. riderkb...

A brew machine for a submarine

A tour of Groton would be no problem. If you can wait a while for things to get sorted, I can probably get that tour to include a boat; otherwise, it would just be a lot of buildings. In theory, we'll be out of the yards in about two years (I'm still amazed at how long this can take). And if...

    Glass Spigot Ideas

I guess I'm a bit late to the party, but I thought I might add this. I made kombucha for about a year, got away from it, and am coming back. I used a continuous sort of process, draining a gallon off and adding a gallon of tea once a week. I didn't like the idea of a plastic spigot submerged in...

A brew machine for a submarine

If you're sure you're comfortable making a donation, I'd deeply appreciate it. I can put the gear to good use, and of course there's a big dose of the final product with your name on it. I'm at EB, and they're kind of sticklers about need to know. That being said, the boat will be at the base...

Newbie from CT, looking to brew a commissioning beer for the USS Colorado

I do so want to include CO (and the sea) as much as possible. I've even been reading about people brewing with wild yeast, wondering if anyone in CO is A. Crazy enough to have captured a wild yeast fit for an ale and B. willing to send me a batch (somehow). Adjuncts, hops, malt...a lot of stuff...

A brew machine for a submarine

The last of the 688s! Workhorse of the fleet! I miss them a bit already. I probably should farm this job out...I just want the excuse to build a ten-gallon machine. We're in Groton. I just hope we STAY here.

A brew machine for a submarine

Okay, so it won't be going ON the submarine. But my CO has decided that our vessel, the USS Colorado, will need a commissioning beer. We might job it out to a small local brewery, but I've wanted a brew machine for a long time anyway, and this is the perfect excuse. This thread is more for me to...

Newbie from CT, looking to brew a commissioning beer for the USS Colorado

I'm not sure of exact quantities, but I'm leaning towards fifty gallons at least. Assuming 48 bottles for every 5 gallons (I always lose some to measuring SG and so forth), that's 480 beers. Which, distributed among 160 sailors, is only 3 beers each. And then there's family and dignitaries and...

Newbie from CT, looking to brew a commissioning beer for the USS Colorado

So I've been brewing for a few years, mostly partial mash stuff on the stove top, bottling in flip top bottles, that sort of thing. I've decided to start kegging, and I've been looking at building a dedicated single-vessel brewing machine for biab partial and all-grain style beers. I'm also in...
