    Brew with unmalted grains!

It is in theory possible but then you would be required to malt the grains yourself which is a lot of work and time.

    BIAB kettle conversion. Bad idea?

Thanks for all the advice guys. Cool setup Gavin. I like what you did with the insulation. Ok I made a wholesale order through a friend in the brewing industry so I got a good deal. This is my plan. Bought the hop bazooka. I also ordered a stainless steel hop spider basket but they are...

    ThaIPA recipe critique please

Ok thanks for all the great tips guys. I ended up making three vodka tinctures for this recipe by blending the vodka with each herb in the blender. Will soak for five days, strain, taste and add to cold crashed primary. Or I could even add just before bottling. What do you guys recommend?

    BIAB kettle conversion. Bad idea?

Thanks mate. I like the look of your setup and was planning on getting one of those elbows too. I will post back after I get a chance to install the hardware.

    BIAB kettle conversion. Bad idea?

I just bought a 38 L pot for BIAB, where I have previously been using a 15 L pot and doing partial mash 20 L diluted batches. Amazing what a difference it is! I cannot believe I had been undergoing all the extra effort to use a partial mash. Anyways, thinking about fitting a kettle conversion...

    ThaIPA recipe critique please

Would love to mate but I live in Australia and I am afraid Uncle Sam does not take kindly to the importation of alcohol. Just brewed this Sunday afternoon and it went very well. I just upgraded to a 38 L BIAB setup and this was my first all-grain brew as I have been doing partial mash with a...

    ThaIPA recipe critique please

Ok thanks for all the input everyone. Based on your recommendations I have modified the recipe. To be honest I am not really aiming for a big hoppy IPA with this one so I am comfortable with the amount of hops. It is of course going to be more of a strong pale ale but I am perfectly fine with...

    ThaIPA recipe critique please

30 IBU for an IPA? So does that mean it just uses a lot of late boil hops for flavour but without providing bitterness? Also, do you recommend I skip the whole dry hop then? Thanks

    ThaIPA recipe critique please

Not really going for a chili beer. Not a big fan of chili in beers to be honest. Anyone else have recommendations?

    ThaIPA recipe critique please

So I am attempting what I have decided to call a ThaIPA. I thought it was an original idea but I am sure it has been done before. I would like to produce an IPA with citrusy floral hop characteristics and the addition of kaffir lime leaves, coriander seeds and lemongrass. Pretty set on the hops...

American Amber Ale Caramel Amber Ale

Perhaps just needs a little more time in the bottle then. To bad I'm so impatient!

American Amber Ale Caramel Amber Ale

After two weeks in the bottle the beer is delicious but there is a definite lack of head retention. Could that be due to the use of sugar and thinning out the beer?

    Dry vs Liquid yeast

This is the response I got: Hi Matt, Thanks for your questions. Not all strains of brewing yeast, wild yeast, or bacteria respond well to the dehydration process, so liquid cultures are the only option for many strains. Additionally, the scale of dehydration equipment is very big - dried...

To squeeze or not to squeeze

Is it strange that I do this with my cooled wort to remove spent hops, especially in big IPAs?

    Dry vs Liquid yeast

A lot of interesting ideas and valid points. I emailed the question to Wyeast so I will post the reply on here when I get a response.

    Dry vs Liquid yeast

I normally wash and reuse my yeast and place it in labeled jars in the fridge. I have only ever used dry yeast, and some may say that it's silly to recycle dry yeast because it is so cheap. I live in Australia, the land of inflated prices, so every bit counts. I understand that most people like...

FIRST AG HEFE! OG: 1.070, ok or dilute?

Sounds like that should give you a great 6%ish hef! In future, use a dilution calculator so you will always know exactly how much water to add to get your desired OG, regardless of how consistent your efficiency is.

FIRST AG HEFE! OG: 1.070, ok or dilute?

Well if you wanted to go for a 6% ABV beer and your OG is 1.079 with 55 L of wort, if you add 15.7 L to get 70.7 L of wort with 1.061 OG. If your OG is 1.070, you will need to add 7.7 L to get 62.7 L total with 1.061 OG.

Good beer for a radler style ale.

I would recommend the Lemon Lime Hefeweizen. The refreshing lime flavour would go great with lemonade. This is a very refreshing summer beer. https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f70/lemon-lime-hefe-weizen-255659/
