    "Hang" beer lines??

So I've read a few threads where folks refer to cleaning and then hanging their beer lines. So far, I have only run beer line cleaner/sanitizer through them. I replaced the beer lines on my kegerator once (to increase the line length), and frankly it was a pain in the a$$. The space in the...

Muslin vs. Nylon bag for pellet hops?

Using this for dry hopping, probably in the keg. Is a muslin bag better at keeping the material together and out of the beer or is it the same as fine nylon? I've only used nylon so far, but it seems not as effective as I would like with pellet hops. -E

    Racking cane/autosiphon

So at the end of my brewing day, I wash and rinse everything. The racking cane/tubing has a lot of water droplets on the inside. It will take days to dry by itself. Is this anything I need to worry about? - ie, Will it lead to sanitation problems at some point? Or is this a case of RDWHAHB...

    Starsan solution in airlock

In the past, I used vodka or distilled water for airlock fluid, but last batch, I tried Starsan in the airlock. I used the correctly diluted solution that I use to sanitize. Every time the airlock bubbled up, the film from the bubble would catch a tiny bit on the edge of the tube in the...

    Fermentation chamber questions

I'm considering getting a temperature control for a freezer in my garage to make a fermentation chamber. I have a couple questions: Is it more effective to control the temperature in the freezer by letting the probe hang in the freezer, or to more directly control the wort temp by...

    Keg cleaning kit purchase error?

So I recently re-booted my beer-making hobby after a 15 year hiatus. This time I decided to move to kegs. I got a lot of equipment, most of it in use and working great. But I think I may have bought something that I don't need. When I was looking at various things to buy, I saw beer line...

    Which choice (fermentation temp)?

Your opinion is requested: 1) Ferment in my "cellar". Ambient temps are ranging from a low of 56 at night to a high of 62. With hotter weather that could happen over the 4-week ferment you could add 3-5 degrees, but it is pretty stable. (A downside here is I would have slog the fermenter...

Techniques for dry hopping in primary

My next batch of beer will be my first time dry-hopping (black IPA). I plan to hop in the primary (3 weeks ferment + 1 week for dry hop). I have a 6.5 gallon glass carboy for primary. I haven’t shopped for ingredients yet, but assume the hops are pellets. Any tips and techniques you can...

    Newb kegging question

I have my first keg carbonating. I am checking carbonation every other day by drawing off a small glass. So far, it seems flat. No problem, it's been 5 days, probably needs more time. Here is my question - is it sufficient to draw off only 2-4 oz to test the carbonation? I'm probably only...

    Force carbonation question

Hi, New to kegging. For my first keg, I am letting the carbonation occur slowly with no methods to speed it up. However, I think for the next one I will try to use the shake method to speed things up a little. I have a few questions about this technique. I understand that you could...

First time kegging - carbonation and balancing

I am about to keg for the first time and I am trying to understand what pressure to set the regulator at. I have reviewed charts that show CO2 volumes and PSI for different temps and styles of beer. So far so good. But then I read about "balancing" and confusion starts to creep in...
