Keep Breaking Sight Glass - Solutions?

I broke my pyrex sight glass even before using it. I found some 6 ft polycarbonate tubing on amazon that was the exact same dimensions for cheap. Just cut to length and you'll have some spares. It works great. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000OM9JPG/?tag=skimlinks_replacement-20

For 1 bbl batches using eherms, I am 2-3 degrees hotter in the hlt compared to the mash tun thermowell. I have my pump valves fully open. It does take a bit for the temp to normalize - probably 15 minutes.

    Thermowell Oil?

Thermal compound is best. However, I use a food grade lubricant (keg lube). Put small amounts in a drinking straw, insert in the thermowell, and blow it in. Works great!
