Welcome aboard! I grew up in Lake County (Painesville). I'm always glad to make it back home, it is such a great state.

    first time bottling questions

Also.... get the spring loaded bottling wand. The gravity wand sucks, I'very learned this the past few batches when I got beer all over the floor.

    Clean them. No doubt.

    Off flavor after kegging

I am experiencing the same thing with an Amber I keg get recently. With the help of a fellow IGer, I conclude it is likely oxidation from not purging the head space right away. Is this something you've done?

    No carbonation after 12 days...problem?

Also, are you sure the caps are on tight enough? I often catch a few bottles that are flat or semi carbed because for some reason the cap was on crooked or not at all.

    Is my shank long enough?

Size doesn't matter, it's how you use it. And in this case, you're going to need more than 1" to get through the door, fasten a nut, and connect the tailpiece. There is a neat little guide right here: http://www.kegconnection.com/shanks-all-sizes-choose-your-size/

Microwaving extract to make getting it out of the bucket easier

On my last brew I wanted a way to get all of the LME out of the bag. I grabbed my small batch kettle and warmed some water then let it soak in there. After it got warmer, I emptied the LME into it then let the open bag sit in the water while my big brew pot was steeping. I was able to get all...

    Coconut water sparge?

I say go for it. Sounds like a good experiment. I'm thinking in the end you'll have an issue with head retention.

Does anyone use a BIAB style bag in their mash tun?

I'm glad to see this thread as this is exactly what I plan on doing instead of buying a false bottom. I have been wonderig though, do you screw on the lid with the bag hanging over the side or throw the sides of the bag in the water then shut it? I have also considered getting the false...

Found a new technique for chilling

That'll do it. I've even considered getting a second chiller to hang out in a salt water ice bath and then run through the kettle. Then get a pump and run it on a loop.

I soaked my bottles in hot pbw and rinsed with hot water now they have his residue on

I asked the same question a short while ago. https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f35/i-took-labels-off-but-then-happened-now-what-490967/ Soaking them in StarSan did the trick.

    Pearland tx area brewers!

Hey ya'll, any pic lock-ers in here? I'm trying to offload a pin lock corny keg. It's a refurbished keg from Northern Brewer, has the dome style pressure relief, and two brand new disconnects which have never had beer or gas run through them. I'm selling it because I changed my mind and have...

I took the labels off, but then this happened... Now what?!?!

I just read a BeerSmith article that mentioned using ammonia too. I'm not sure I wanna do that. I think from here on out I'll soak without submerging the whole bottle.
