When to move from primary to secondary

What if I cut the secondary time down from one month to something shorter, 2 weeks maybe? Sent from my iPad using Home Brew

When to move from primary to secondary

Fermentation went fine. 1.085 down to 1.020. (Recipe stated OG 1.082-1.086. FG 1.017-1.020) Siphoned from primary to secondary so splashing was kept to a minimum. Sent from my iPad using Home Brew

When to move from primary to secondary

Doesn't the secondary assist in the clarification? Plus, since I have about 4.5 gallons in a 6.5 primary pail, moving it to a 5 gallon Carboy removes the head space. Then I can reuse the primary for the next batch. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N900A using Home Brew mobile app

When to move from primary to secondary

Just opened the lid. The krausen has dropped. Will take a gravity reading tomorrow morning and a second within three days. If I'm at FG with no change, I will rack to secondary. Sent from my iPad using Home Brew

When to move from primary to secondary

Ok, another noobie question. I am making a Belgian Tripel. My brew day was exactly one week ago. I used 4.5 gallons of bottled water instead of the recipes 5 gallons to maintain a gravity of 1.085. My objective is to keep the ABV between 8.5-9.0% so one might consider this a big beer. It is...

Another newbie question about cooling temperatures

I just checked and the thermometer on the primary says 76 F. Granted that is external of the fermenter as I'm not going to open it just to check. But how much in the inside temp? Sent from my iPad using Home Brew

Another newbie question about cooling temperatures

Although the Belgian recipe did not call for added fresh water as part of the cooling process, I found it extremely helpful. Sent from my iPad using Home Brew

Another newbie question about cooling temperatures

I've created my first batch of porter. In spite of all my errors along the way, it came out pretty tasty. Yesterday I brewed my second batch, a Belgian porter. The first recipe suggested to rapid cool the brewed wort kettle to a temp of 100 degrees F. Then pour it into the primary and add cold...

    Your typical newbie question...

Hey all, In the process of brewing my first batch of porter. Following the instruction sheet to a T. Yada yada... Sanitized everything. At day seven (per instructions) attempted to rack siphon the 5 gallons from the 6.5 primary bucket to the secondary 5 glass carboy. But stopper wouldn't stick...

A different take on secondary fermenters

I'm new to home brewing. I apologize if this was already covered or I'm posting in the wrong place. I am in the process of brewing my first batch of porter. After 7 days (OG 1.062, down to 1.020, FG should be 1.012), I attempted to siphon from the primary fermenter to a sanitized carboy but I...
