    English IPA Recipe Critique Please

That's actually how American IPAs tend to be too. I guess having only tried a few examples, most of which were made in America, I must have a different idea of what EIPAs are like. I definitely want to try a more authentic EIPA though. I think the english hops have some interesting flavors and...

Tips on my first original recipe? (Rauchbier)

Update: DO NOT use flavoring hops with rauchbier. At least not the ones I used. They didn't go with the smoke flavor at all. Also, it definitely could've used more smoke

    English IPA Recipe Critique Please

Yeah, from what I've heard, people who are actually from England tend to see EIPAs as lighter beers, while over in America, they tend to be darker and maltier. I guess that's why it seems (from my looking into other recipes as well as the comments on this) that people tend to go either mostly MO...

    English IPA Recipe Critique Please

Thanks for the advice! Orangehero: "The only thing I'm not sure about is the Biscuit and Victory. They are very similar and you are using it in a large amount (almost 15%). The flavors are bold, so you could reduce the total to less than 10%." I think I'll reduce the Biscuit down to 1lbs...

    English IPA Recipe Critique Please

Also thinking about replacing one of the pounds of Marris Otter with some table sugar to lighten the body a bit. I know I can just mash a bit higher for lighter body, but I'm not very good at insulating my mash....

    English IPA Recipe Critique Please

Hey y'all, Kinda new to formulating my own recipes still and this will actually be my first IPA so I would appreciate any help you can give me for this recipe :mug: I'm hoping for a bready/biscuity beer with a nice hop presence that isn't overwhelming or too bitter. Basically I'm hoping for...

    Rauchbier help (first orig recipe)

Ok cool. I'll switch the amounts for the Munich and the smoked malt and take out the flavor/aroma hops. I think I'll add some as first wort hopping, but that shouldn't do anything except make sure the bittering from the hops is smooth. Thanks for the tips!

    Rauchbier help (first orig recipe)

Awesome. Thanks for introducing me to bg:gu! It runs it at exactly .5 so I guess I'm good... pending what the actual AA are, as you said. Also, I've looked around, and 25% smoked malt is actually a bit on the low side. But seriously, thanks for the bu:gu :mug:

Tips on my first original recipe? (Rauchbier)

Ok cool. Thanks man! One more thing if you have the time. What do you think about the flavor/aroma hops? I'm drinking a german lager now and I'm not completely sure how well the noble hop flavor would go with smoke. I can see it being very good, especially with some more good background malt...

Help! wild difference in IBU and OG between Brewtarget and Beersmith!

I changed all the hops to leaf and the difference is now just 33-30 IBUs. So must've mostly been the pellet efficiency that was different. Both use Tinseth. A 3 IBU difference is fine by me. Annddd as for the difference in OG/ABV..... I just saw that I had the amounts of two of the malts...

Help! wild difference in IBU and OG between Brewtarget and Beersmith!

AAU is the same. And I'm not sure how to find the PPG, but they have the same mash efficiency percentage.

Good point. I'll change those hops to 20min. Thanks!

Help! wild difference in IBU and OG between Brewtarget and Beersmith!

So I have a recipe for a rauchbier and I plugged it into both beersmith and brewtarget and came out with two wildly different IBUs. I have the same boil volume / batch volume / efficiency for each so I don't know what went wrong... The IBUs: Beersmith 33.2 Brewtarget 41 OG/ABV...
