I've got 2 one gallon batches brewing.. one red ale and the other a summer wheat.. I used dried Nottingham for both and both of these have a strange foam forming on the top and sides of the carboy... I opened up the red ale because the foam clogged up my airlock.. so I sanatized a spoon and push...

    Homebrew sparkling cider questions.

Thanks for all the help guys. As for the bottling is everything ok there. Does it make sence to bottle and then put the bottles in the fridge to stop c02 production or am I asking for a bottle bomb?

    Homebrew sparkling cider questions.

I read champagne yeast for cider during one of my my early internet searches when i got interested in making cider and I've read of other kinds being used but i thought this would be interesting.

    Homebrew sparkling cider questions.

So i've brewed about 6 or seven beers, last 2 being 1 gallon batches opposed to 5. I want to switch it up a little and do a cider for my girlfriend (and myself) and I'm thinking a mango cider. I done some reading over the past couple days but I'm finding hard to find information that doesn't...

    slow fermentation and little activity

I'm not sure what type of yeast it was now.. It was the one the Lhbs gave me with the kit.. As for temp control I bought a couple of those stick on thermometers and have had very little success getting a reading from them. I've been very careful to keep the temp. In my apartment the same...

    Happy brewing from Nova Scotia

Hey, I've already posted a question but i also though I'd pop in here for a proper hello. I'm new to brewing but it's something I've been wanting to do for a long time. Me and my girlfriend were out when we seen a Mr. Beer kit and I told her it's something I'd like to get into and we looked...

    slow fermentation and little activity

i'll wait the 2 weeks to take my reading and go from there. the main reason i switched is because my LHBS mentioned nothing about blow off or air locks. they said i could simply place the lid loosely on top. I've read about success with this as well but i though the carboy would provide more...

    slow fermentation and little activity

thanks for the quick response. i haven't taken a hydrometer rating since my concern started, as i want to limit the number of times i open the carboy but since you think its fine i will probably leave it for a couple more days and take a reading to see where it sits! thanks again

    slow fermentation and little activity

i have recently started my first blonde lager and as my LBS suggested i started in a fermentation bucket. after a bit of research i learnt that a lot of people only use a carboy so I racked to my carboy earlier then suggested to keep it safer from infection. the first day i was getting a lot of...
