American Amber Ale Konn's Oktoberfest Ale (Extract Recipe)

This one turned out really good for an extract. Very malt forward, sweet and easy drinking ale for an October afternoon :) https://imgur.com/a/rBQut

What size deep freeze to fit two 30L Speidels?

...having said that I also have 2 Speidel 30Ls but I'm only planning on having one fermentation chamber. For me I brew at most 1 batch a week so worst case I leave the new batch in the chest for a week and then move it to a closet to make room for the next one. Have a feeling any remaining...

What size deep freeze to fit two 30L Speidels?

I ended up looking into this for a while. At one point I was looking at 28 bottle wine cooler but I'm glad I didn't go that route because when I finally found a store with one I could look at I realized the bottom comes out and a Speidel 30L would not have fit. At the end of the day I found...

Need help with a BYO recipe.

If it were me I would add ditch the corn sugar and add some black patent and maybe some chocolate malt. Personally I love s04 for stouts, but you might also try Nottingham. Might also try a different bittering hop (I've had good luck with Perle and Calypso for bittering and then Fuggle for...

confused about converting all grain recipes

Been doing extract brews for a little under a year now and one thing that has really helped me is this page: http://beersmith.com/grain-list/ Pay special attention to the must mash section. Basically anything on this page that has no for must mash is ok for extract brews. That said, I've...

Darker line of beer above beer in fermenter?

LOL...the old beercano...pretty sure most of us have been there at some point. In terms of that line...I'm not a doctor, I don't play one on TV, and I didn't stay at a Holiday Inn last night, but it's probably ok. At least now you know to use a blow off setup next time (or a bigger primary...

How do YOU name your beers?

Have only named one recipe so far...was my #19th batch and my first time doing a stout...had a good feeling about it since transferring it to my secondary and after kegging it turned out to be one of my best (and one of the best stouts I've had) so named it Lucky #19 Stout :D

    "Do not rehydrate yeast"

Would argue you should always use a starter for liquid least and always rehydrate dry yeast. For rehydration, I just boil about a half a bottle of water, put 4 ounces in a pyrex cup, wait 20-25 mins (or until the temp is about 95), add the yeast, wait 15 mins, stir, wait 15 more, stir and...

    So who's brewing this weekend?

Just finished my 20th batch! This is the only time so far that I haven't tried a new recipe (yet) and ended up going with my favorite so far, which was an american amarillo based red ale...wanted something special for #20 :) Here's a pic of the original from last year...

What did I do wrong with this beer?

Recipe looks ok. Would recommend 2-3 weeks in the primary and making a yeast starter next time.

    Man, I love Apfelwein

7 years later and this thread is still going. If you are still reading this my thanks for the inspiration Ed. Been thinking about getting into doing cider after doing my own beer for a bit and ended up landing on this thread as I'm sure many have before me. Made some slight mods to mine and...
