Blueberry Melomel fermentation, does this seem weird?

I think you may be on to something, but I wish there was a more accurate way to measure it. I didn't calculate the volume of the blueberries, you're right, but I had no idea how to calculate the liquid that might be inside or that i would reasonably extract. I imagine a lot of it comes with...

Blueberry Melomel fermentation, does this seem weird?

My initial and FG were measured with a hydrometer and with a refractometer (calibrated) so I am fairly certain they are accurate. The blueberry figure (actual SG) was the one that I couldn't measure accurately with either method so is all conjecture. I've been brewing beer and mead for about a...

Blueberry Melomel fermentation, does this seem weird?

Hey everyone! My girlfriend and I recently brewed a blueberry melomel, recipe as follows: 3 tsp DAP (split into two) 1.5 tsp Yeast Energizer (split into two) 9 lb clover honey from a local apiary (3 lb/gal) 1 pack Lalvin 71B yeast - rehydrated 9.9 lb total blueberries - 1.25 packs costco...

How fast does gravity drop? Inaccurate hydro reading.

I took the first reading, knew it was off, then sloshed around the fermenter pretty well to aerate it. that didn't seem to help it mix well enough, unfortunately. i did double check all the settings on brewsmith, so I imagine that i am pretty close to what was expected, but thought there...

How fast does gravity drop? Inaccurate hydro reading.

I started brewing a beer yesterday, a spiced brown ale forsolstice festivities. I'm usually doing all-grain, but this time I went the extract approach to save some time. The problem was, after mixing water with the wort (i had about 2 gallons left after a 3 gallon boil) i obviously couldn't...

    American IPA Hopslam Clone

after one week, our beer is about half carbonated. The flavor is fantastic, honey on the back end and very bright (though i wish i had about 2% more ABV). I think assuming bad efficiency for beers this big should be expected, i'll change my beersmith settings next time and dial up the recipe.

    American IPA Hopslam Clone

Brewed this on saturday, AG. Our batch sparging only got us to 1.076 OG (55% mash eff.) The beer smells fantastic, not sure if it needs 3 extra oz of simcoe but i'm gonna do it. I'm already mourning the loss of probably a gallon of beer to all the hops. Not sure why the og was so low, our...

    Mexican Chocolate Stout

Sorry it took so long to reply, I don't check my email often. Here's the recipe I used: 14 lbs Pale Malt (2 Row) US (2.0 SRM) 2 lbs Chocolate Malt (350.0 SRM) 1 lbs Black (Patent) Malt (500.0 SRM) 1 lbs...

    Mexican Chocolate Stout

My stout was just bottled last week. It has a little bit of heat in the finish, but the cinnamon doesnt really pull through the chocolaty maltiness. I'll update again after it's carbonated because it will open up the flavor a little bit. I wish I would have been more aggressive with spices...

    Mexican Chocolate Stout

Another brewer tried that here: https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f12/mexican-chocolate-stout-343451/ but didn't give results. I'm going to do something similar. I've got a chocolate stout (I've made it before with good results) that is two weeks into primary fermentation. I'm going to re-rack to...
