Ive done a baltic porter with all target gave me the perfect mellow earthy biterness to let malt show through. Dont know that it would work for an ipa but as bittering or in darker beers eg stout porters its great
I thought this was a good idea and I get a cheap beer for free fingers crossed it tastes ok. Not to estery. Might do this as standard procedure for all high gravities if it workes out.

I have just mashed and cubed(no chill) a baltic porter sg 1.074
Ran out of exract to make a starter.
So I have decided to brew a beer kit from supermarket as a starter.
I havent added any sugar just the can up 13liter sg 1.037 are fermenting at 16c just above recomended range for the yeast...
