    Retaining Maple Flavor

+1 on the sorbate. Very common practice when making mead in order to bring back some of the honey flavor.

    just received old yeast

Exactly! I would not, and will not, be doing business with MoreBeer after that encounter. You did not pay $16 or so to be told that you need to now do a starter! They are off my list.

Any point in entering a NEIPA into a Competition....

I had the same experience last year. Judges just can't stand it when the bitterness is smooth and yummy.

    Ball valve on Chugger output??

Update: System ran great for two batches this past Saturday. I don't know what my issue was, but it is fixed. I had to throttle back quite a bit to keep the output from Therminator below 70 degrees. Worked like a charm.

    St. Bernardus Christmas Ale clone?

I just had a bottle of this beer. I would love to learn to brew something like it, but I am not finding anything out there that looks like a reasonable clone. Has anybody else had any luck finding or devising a recipe for it? Thanks!!!

What does Lagering achive after cold crash?

I read the Brulosophy 2 week lager posts with care and came to the conclusion that doing it the traditional way is how I want to do my lagers. Plenty of beer in the keezer. No need to rush it along. A month ago I brewed a Vienna Lager that I fermented at 48 degrees for 2 weeks and then let it...

Scratch, Dent & Return Blowout Thread

I notice that following the link does not take me to the discount. Does that mean that you have sold the one item that you had?

    Ball valve on Chugger output??

Yes, I am using full port ball valve. The trouble that I have is I am seeing the Bernoulli principle in action. Huge speed increase (less volume, of course), and foam in the line. Am I the only one?

    Ball valve on Chugger output??

So, am I the only person to notice that a ball valve on the output side of a chugger pump causes turbulence and flow issues?

    tilt v.s. brew bug

Thanks for this thread folks! Both of these units sound like "gadgets" to me instead of tools. I don't have money for gadgets. :)

Anheuser-Busch InBev Acquires Northern Brewer & Midwest Supplies

Busch Gardens was not sold for revenue reasons. Busch Gardens, SeaWorld, etc. were pet projects of the Busch family. When InBev took over they chose to get rid of businesses outside of their core business area, BEER! At the time, and currently, SeaWorld entertainment is quite profitable.

    Best Pumpkin Spice Recipe?

Call me a wet blanket if you want, but pumpkin pie spice should remain in the pumpkin pie. Just eat more pie. :) What?

I have a "Tart" Cherry tree loaded with cherries. Now what?

Pick the cherries. Package and send via 2nd day air to my address. My favorite jam/preserves is made from tart cherries. I will buy all you have. :)

    Selling Liquid Yeast

Both of the HBS's near me stock a large variety of "mostly" very fresh liquid yeast. One stocks Wyeast and the other stocks White Labs.

I don't want to open a brewery (and maybe you shouldn't either)

Too true! For a major reality check do a search here on HBT on Muddy Creek. Read the first 26 pages of that thread. WOW!

What Sanitisers and Cleaners are used.

Can you get Iodophor? This is an iodine based sanitizer. Following the instructions, this is a no-rinse sanitizer that is extremely effective if you can't find Starsan. Bleach is a bad idea, because you have to rinse afterwards thus potentially undoing the sanitization.

    2016 Nottingham ale yeast thread

It ain't finished! Let it rise to 70 degrees and just take it easy for a few days. No need to rush, right? Let the yeast do the job of cleaning up after itself. After a total of 10 days to 2 weeks from the pitch, cold crash and keg. I think you'll be a much happier brewer.
