    Liquid v dry yeast

The problem I experienced with yeast harvesting was that I passed on an infection that wasn't noticeable until after the batch had been bottled for several weeks. Since then I changed from harvesting the yeast after fermentation, to harvesting a small portion BEFORE pitching. Basically, I...

Any good IPA/APA recipes with Mt. Rainier Hops?

Here's a sample glass. Definite hints of citrus and licorice from the hops, but well balanced with the malt. A touch of caramel as well.

Any good IPA/APA recipes with Mt. Rainier Hops?

I was at my LHBS last week, and they were giving away a free pound of hops when you purchased a certain value of merchandise. Most of the names of the hops on the list I did not recognize, but I thought I had heard of Mt. Rainier hops before. So I just got a full pound of of Mt. Rainier...

American Amber Ale House Amber (AG & Extract)

So I brewed this recipe back in May, adding only 1/4 lb of honey malt, and submitted it to the Maryland Microbrew competition back in September. It ended up placing 3rd in the American Amber (10B) category. I call it my "Aviator Amber". Great recipe, thanks for the inspiration! I'm going to...

Worst Homebrewing Mistakes - HBT Article

I went to the homebrew store (2 hours from my house) to buy some grain and a packet of Wyeast 3711 French Saison. Two nights before brewing I made a starter, added the yeast, yeast nutrient, and even oxygenated it. As I was holding it in one hand, slowly swirling the flask, I reached out with my...

American Wheat Beer American Wheat Beer - 2nd place Best of show - 2011 HBT BJCP competition

I brewed this back on Valentine's day, and bottled it March 20th. I had my first bottle about a week ago after a few days in the fridge, and it was still a little "green". I just had my second bottle as I sit here (brewing a Belgian Wit today), and the beer has now come into its own. What a...

    Anybody else love egg sandwiches!

It's my go to meal when I don't have time to cook: Two eggs over hard, a slice of muenster on top, spicy mustard on one slice, mayo on the other! Mmmm good!

    Carboy caps

My orange cap fits rather loosely as well, and it has never fallen off or been blown off, even when fermenting a high gravity cider.
