    Recurring stuck fermentations

Great catch! I just plugged this all in beer smith and brewers friend and it indeed looks like I'm at about 5.5%! That is awesome news. I had no idea refractometers needed that adjustment. Sent from my iPhone using Home Brew

    Recurring stuck fermentations

We'll that would mean my beer is fully fermented in all 4 cases. What website are you using? That is good news, now I just don't know why the 2nd and 3rd batches didn't carb up properly. Sent from my iPhone using Home Brew

    Recurring stuck fermentations

Thanks for the input guys. I think I'm going to invest in one of those wine degasers and give that a shot.

    Recurring stuck fermentations

So aerating could be the issue. The first three were all bottle conditioned and were all an OG of about 1.052. The stout carbed up fine and was a little on the sweet side but not overwhelming. The 2nd and 3rd batches were also bottle conditioned and they did not carb up enough. They did a little...

    Recurring stuck fermentations

So my last 4 batches have all stalled fermenting at about 1.025. The first was an Irish stout extract kit with a wyeast Irish stout yeast. Second was a cream ale extract kit, third an all grain pale ale, and fourth a nut brown extract kit all 3 with dry safale US-05. The stout was fermented...

Missouri 10G Tall Boy Kettle with Accessories

I have for sale a like new (1 time use) 10 G Tall Boy Brew Kettle with Blichman Brewmometer and Stainless Steel Ball Valve and Barb Fitting. This is heavy duty Kettle and costs about $215 new from Midwest Supplies with shipping. The only reason I'm getting rid of this is because this is so heavy...

    Wort chiller

Just like Shaky I made one from a 25ft coil of 3/8" copper, some vinyl tubing and hose fittings from Home Depot for around $20-$25 and it looks exatly like a $60 one from the HBS and works great.

    Moving past brew kits...

If you want to start looking at adding different things to existing recipes and kits you can plug them into a program like Beersmith and then add what you want to see how it will effect ABV, Color, IBUs etc.

    Heat stick question

Thanks! Just couldn't believe how quickly that happened, any risk of cleaning with pbw? I know it's not like copper just wanted to make sure.

    Heat stick question

So I finished my heat stick and covered it with some DAP food safe silicone to be safe, definitely helped dramatically in how fast I could heat 7 gallons of water in my 10 gallon kettle on the electric stove, 56*F to 208*F in about 80 min. Problem is it topped out at 208-210 and wouldn't boil...

    Heat Stick input

I know there are a ton of threads on this topic here but most were older and didn't have a lot of recent feedback. Here are the parts that I got and came out to a total of $50.87 with tax all from Home Depot. - 1500w/120V Rheem Screw In w/h element - 6' 14 gauge, 3-wire Rubber Electrical...

Keep SWMBO Happy and Brew Beer at the Same Time

So I finally made this with some dry 2 row and crystal 60 grains and a Schlafly Porter and the bread turned out great. It was delicous! The only thing with the way mine turned out was that the inner bread was extremley soft and the outer crust was pretty crispy. Any suggestions for making the...

    Making Beer without a boil?

Should I be able to smell/taste the DMS before bottling. I won't be terribly dissappointed if in three weeks I have to dump the batch as much as I would be dumping 50 bottles. Definitely bummed for my first AG batch after my Mash went so well. I am looking into the heating elements now. Thanks!

    Making Beer without a boil?

Unfortunately I live in a condo and have nowhere to use a propane burner. That definitely would have been my first option if I could but don't think I can hangout on the sidewalk downtown with a burner on the sidewalk! As for the top off I'm not sure how that would work with all grain. I need...
