The one that I did open was gingerly opened over the sink, just in case, but it didn't have any activity. I put it in the shower in case of bottle bombs, ironically. The plan was if anything did go boom, the mess would be contained to the shower, I could clean up the glass, and give...

Haha. Yes it is, I am upset, about the lost beer, and the repair bill. It is a hell of a story though, and I will continue to brew! I only have 7.5 gallon pails. I'm far from an expert, but have shared my story on other social sites and have heard back that it was the heat. Granted its only...

I thought about infection, but the brew tastes pretty good! It's my understanding that if it had gone bad, it should taste sour?

Well... I took gravity readings to confirm the ferment was over. Stayed at 1.022 for several days. I used a ingredient kit, so the sugar was premeasured. The only variables in play were the bottles, and the temp. I used Sam Adams empties, which as I understand are one of the best to go with if...

Haha, that's awesome. On the upside, I cracked open the first of the remaining bottles this evening, with my landlord (who has been understanding). Its pretty good if I do say so myself. Hes not much of a stout fan, but still enjoyed it.

This is the ceiling: This *was* the shower: This is the remains of 34 bottles of stout: The culprit? Lack of climate control. This was in un air conditioned basement apartment, the outside temp reached 95+ for at least four days running. 10 bottles out of 44 survived. 4 of those went...

    Transporting recently bottle beer

in case its of use to anyone: The litre and a half survived just fine in transit. The TSA didn't inspect my bag. The bottle did expand significantly, though there was no breakage/leaking. Huzzah!

    Transporting recently bottle beer

No way you're getting through security with any kind of liquid over 100ml, sealed or not. But shouldn't be an issue as long as I check it. I thought about bottling normally and taking that, but I feel the glass has a better chance of breaking, and should there be any freezing going on it'd...

    Transporting recently bottle beer

I know of a few good brews up there, (I frequent Bushwakkers) but I want to take my own to share with friends. I intend to put it in my checked baggage, so it should be no problem. We're allowed to bring beer in, so long as it doesn't exceed duty free limits. I'm just concerned about...

    Transporting recently bottle beer

Hello all, I am going to be flying on wednesday night and would like to take some of the beer I will be bottling on monday night with me, so that friends up there will be able to have some once its ready. So far, the plan is to 3/4 fill a 2L soda bottle with beer, and squeeze in the sides...

    High OG, early charge?

K, Popped the lid, took the gravity, and couldn't resist having a little taste. (Yes I sterilized the spoon first and drip-dried it :) ) Only had the smallest of tastes, but its pretty good, if I do say so myself. A little bitter, but thats to be expected at this point (as I understand it). The...

    High OG, early charge?

but.. I don't think its stuck.. I just want to speed up the fermentation to bring the gravity down further, faster. I've yet to pop the lid, so cause you seem to really want the gravity I'll pop it and take a look/reading and report back :).

    High OG, early charge?

yup, thats exactly it. I'm concerned I'm not going to hit my target FG. I know if I add more yeast, I can bring it down, but that will cause the ferment to take longer. I'm interested in opinions around giving it the sugar during the settle, instead of at bottling, and if people who know better...

    High OG, early charge?

Hey all, I've been reading without registering. I've had a milk stout in for just over 2 weeks now, planning to rack it net Monday. I put it in with a high OG of 1.082. I'm hoping for a FG in the 25-30 range. I've not taken a reading since its been fermenting, but there has been very little...
