    Spike Solo Owner's Thread

I picked up a game hoist at Harbor Freight for about $15 and it works great for lifting the basket to drain it. You can also get similar game hoists off places like Amazon. The width of the hanger part of the hoist is perfect for the 20 gallon solo basket. I screwed an eye hook to one of the...

Problem with Fast Ferment Valve Leaking

So last night I went to take the yeast collection ball off my Fast Ferment conical and as soon as I unscrewed and removed the collection ball and connectors from the valve it began to leak pretty fast, I ended up losing about a quarter gallon of beer due to this leak. I ended up racking the beer...

    white labs San Diago yeast

I've used the San Diego Super for a few recent high gravity brews (mainly stouts) and I've gotten very good results. It generally starts fermenting fast and tends to finish primary within a few days. It is intended to give a neutral flavor and I haven't noticed any off flavors so far in any of...

16.1 in the books. Any other crossfitters?

I just got done with 16.5 and it was a bitch! Got 20:47 (Rx). Thrusters are a weak point for me and burpees just suck all together so it was pretty rough from start to finish. Good luck everyone!

Yeast harvesting and protein from whirlfloc tablets

Yeast harvesting and protein from whirlfloc tablets

This is a batch of yeast that I'm harvesting and washing from a previous batch (this is the San Diego Super Yeast). I used a whirlfloc tablet in the last brew. Is the thick lighter layer at the top the sedimented protein from the whirlfloc tablet that I should decant off or is that yeast that is...

16.1 in the books. Any other crossfitters?

Nice job all around guys! Got 167 Rx today (10:54 tiebreak time). HSPU have always been a weak point for me, and today was no exception. Started DL with 15 unbroken and was doing my DL in groups of 5 reps at a time after that, but by the end of the round I had to back down to doing singles for...

Yeast harvesting and protein from whirlfloc tablets

Yeah, I've been using those the last couple times I've harvested yeast. Using the half gallon ones makes washing the yeast pretty easy as well.
