South Jersey/Philly Group Buy... ROUND 28!

Vince Thanks for the offer. I keep missing the group buys. I usually check 2 days after it closes out. Been brewing here and there with the inventory that I built up. Saw you won the trip to Belgium with Lappy. How was that? Best, Glenn

    Chicago & Philly Brewpubs???

In Philly, check out Nodding Head on Sansom St. between 15th & 16th Sts, upstairs. That's downtown. If in the suburbs, there are a number of Iron Hill Restaurants & Breweries - their seasonals and specials are usually pretty good and vary by location. Cheers, Glenn

    3 Gallon Kegs

Mine arrived today. I'm happy as a clam. Bobby: Thanks much brother! :mug: BTW, somebody wrote RUM on the keg. If I put beer in there will that be false advertising? :) Does anyone know if the 3 gallon kegs take the same size o-rings as the standard 5 gallon corney? Cheers, Glenn

    Hello from Philadelphia

Welcome :mug: While not in Philly, the Barley Legal Homebrewers meet on the first Tuesday of the month at 7:00 pm at the Iron Hill in Maple Shade. That's probably about 1/2 hour from the Walt Whitman. Bring some of your brews to share. Cheers, Glenn

    Kolsch recipe?

I go with 85% to 95% pils with remainder using munich or vienna and, optionally a bit of wheat. For hops, I go with any Noble hops at about 20 to 25 IBU: near all at the bittering addition with a small flavor addition. IMO, the individual variety of Noble hops isn't terribly important. I...

    Kolsch - protocol for kegging

The process that I follow is: once fermentation is complete ( and given a few days), I rack to a keg that I use as a brite tank; cool to serving for 24 hours, add gelatin, given it 4 or 5 days and then closed transfer to a serving keg. The Wyeast Kolsch strain takes a long time to clear, IME...

Question about oaked Denny Conn's BVIP using Pacman

IMO, Pacman is a great general purpose yeast for styles where a neutral yeast character is preferred. You can ferment down to 60 and even lower. I reuse Pacman with great results. Before you pitch onto a yeast cake, read this excellent thread. Bob makes a lot of good points, But, as always...

Are finings effective to achieve clearer beer?

I alway use a 1/2 tab of whirfloc in the BK and 1/2 pack of gelatin after fermentation is complete. With lighter beers, I seem to have a protein haze problem which I just can't clear with other methods. I tried bentonite (which has the opposite charge of gelatin) on the last batch and though...

    Cold plate

The holes should be threaded. Barbs will screw into them. Not sure of the size. Cheers, Glenn

    3 Gallon Kegs

You need to setup a personal paypal account that is tied to (1) your checking account (2) your e-mail address. When I signed up a number of years ago, it was a 3 to 5 day process. On 2 occasions they xferred a few cents into my checking account and asked me to verify the amount to ensure that...
