    Using Starsan in Sparge Water

I have a few ideas too. Add sour cream to your finished berliner to achieve a tart, cloudy product you can be proud of. PBW is an alkaline cleaner... Screw chalk or baking soda, add PBW to raise pH in the mash for those stouts and porters. Malt has sugar, but so does my daughters morning...

    Bottle Conditioning 100% Brett IPA

I'm curious if the Trois comment is a widely accepted fact? In Chad Yakobson's Masters dissertation, he had a section explicitly identifying the "Drie" strain as B. bruxellensis. He propagated his from a bottle of Avery 15 that was fermented 100% with BSI's Drie strain. I wonder if what White...

Long term aging in sanke keg

The reason I didn't go with a simple stopper on my keg solera is because mine had a key way cut into the inside face of the opening where the spear twist-locks into place before the retaining ring is installed. This key way wouldn't be sealed properly with just a stopper. I don't know if your...

Long term aging in sanke keg

I also bought the sanke fermenter kit from Brewers Hardware, along with that purchase, I bought: -(1) 2" tri clamp replacement gasket for the fermenter kit -(1) 2" tri clamp ferrule -(1) 2" tri clamp...uh, clamp. Using the gasket that they made for there sanke fermenter kit, which has one...

Skewed ABV Reading due to lactose addition... Help!

This is the simple solution: Friend: Hey man, what's the ABV on this? You: Bout 4.5 to 5% Friend: Cool BRO! You: Yup (internal thought: note to self, next time buy a good hydrometer and take proper gravity readings...) Solved. Nonetheless, that was some pretty slick stuff AJ!

beerstone on new Keggle, how to easily get rid of it without acids?

I don't mind using acids. Bar Keepers Friend is an oxalic acid and I use it about once every 2 brews to keep my keggle like new. The type I have is in the same packaging as comet or Ajax is but this is 100% safe for SS and after your done you have a new passive layer once it's dry. Sent from...

DIY Carboy / Corny Keg / hopefully Sanke Keg Washer

I actually built one but it was just a simple pvc attachment onto the pump. I have been busy rebuilding my brew room because I had a house flood and the beer gods decided the flood should centralize right on my favorite room in the house. As far as the pump...

    Homebrewers Solving Problems

I recently had a house flood which trashed my indoor brew room. The flood was unrelated to my brewing setup but it put me out of commission regardless. I had to remove my hot water heater for the contractor to do some drywall repair at that location. I have two daughters (1 yr and 2 yrs) and I...

Show me pics of your dedicated brewing rooms!

I converted a room that used to be my sorts bar into my BreüRoom. I have a Sabco Brew Magic with all the accessories (chill wizard, stainless fermenter and storage tank). I had to weld up a frame for a ventilation hood to fight fumes and evap. The one thing I'm not happy with is the big ugly...

DIY Carboy / Corny Keg / hopefully Sanke Keg Washer

Wow! If you happen to live in Southern California and need a pump... I got an email saying my pump was shipping out on 5/10 (This morning), I come home and find the pump at my doorstep. It's like they just sent some dude to drop it off. I will take it! Anyways, here is my attempt to make this...

DIY Carboy / Corny Keg / hopefully Sanke Keg Washer

I am still waiting on my pump to come in. I just got word it is shipping out now. I will have some updates in a couple days. I was just trying to gauge if it was worth the posts or if nobody would care... It sounds like there is some interest. I already have a pretty good idea of what I want to...

DIY Carboy / Corny Keg / hopefully Sanke Keg Washer

I may have spoke too soon. I saw a post titled similar to mine. Something like "DIY Carboy/keg cleaner". So this won't be a groundbreaking build or anything. But I have some improvements in mind over the one I'm referring to, so I will still itemize my build.

DIY Carboy / Corny Keg / hopefully Sanke Keg Washer

As can be imagined by the title. I am very confident in my ability to build a washer capable of taking on a carboy or Pepsi keg. I'm just not sure if it will work in a Sanke keg. Likely it will require the spear to be removed. I might be able to accomplish building a set up where you could leave...

    Ventilation for my Brew Magic

Today was the first day everything has been operational. I had everything assembled yesterday but it was late. I spent awhile just getting familiarized with all the valves and which combos performed what actions. I think this thing is going to be awesome, unfortunately I probably wont be able to...

    Ventilation for my Brew Magic

I did a lot of the work before even getting my Brew Magic System. Once it came in I was anxious because I knew it would be a tight fit. I didn't realize how tight... I think the burner is too close for comfort to the wall so I installed a heat shield up against the wall closest to the main...

    Ventilation for my Brew Magic

Originally my plan was to duct out of the side of the wall. I wasn't too excited about punching a hole in the exterior of my house so I decided to just route the duct in a fashion so I could take it out the window on brew days. Now my ducting was complete I had to get my natural gas supply...

    Ventilation for my Brew Magic

The location where I wanted to put my brew system was originally used as my TV center in my bar. I think I will get more enjoyment out of brewing on my new system more than I ever got out of watching TV. I might be able to find a new place to put the TV but for now, its gotta go. Before I...

    Ventilation for my Brew Magic

I used L1"x1"x1/8" angle for the frame and 18 gauge sheet steel for the infill. I wanted to use non galvanized steel because I think it looks a lot cooler. The downside is that if the clear coat doesn't hold up than it will begin rusting.
